MILLSBORO – With no opposition there will be no election.
The town of Millsboro’s 2009 municipal election scheduled for Saturday, June 13 will not be held as incumbents Robert Bryan and Irene Keenan were the only candidates to file by the May 15 filing deadline, Millsboro Town Manager Faye Lingo said.
Both incumbents earned three year terms on Millsboro’s seven-member town governing body, which includes six council members and the mayor.
Mr. Bryan, who has served on council since 2005, represents District 1, which includes areas east of U.S. 113 and south of Del. 24.
Ms. Keenan joined council in 2006 and is the District 3 representative. That includes the area west of U.S. 113.
Still vacant is the council seat held by the late John Wilkins, who passed away in January of this year.
“Council may go ahead and appoint that seat, but they haven’t done that yet,” said Ms. Lingo.
Ms. Lingo said past history shows it is not uncommon in Millsboro that there is occasionally a year when there is no election due to lack of candidates.
“It seems like you go for awhile and you don’t have anyone interested and then you’ll get two or three that are interested. We’ve been fortunate. We usually have found volunteers when we need them,” she said. “There have been people willing to serve for the good of the town.”
