BLADES – The town of Blades has received $5,000 from Sussex County Council for a proposed upgrade/expansion project at the public park on 7th Street.

County councilman Dale Dukes, D-Laurel, presented the check Oct. 31 to Blades Mayor David Ruff. Town administrator Vikki Prettyman and council-man Michael Smith, the parks/cemeteries commission, attended the ceremony.

Still in the planning stages, the park project will include new playground equipment, safety zone areas for equipment, another pavilion, picnic tables and barbecue and trash disposal facilities.

The entire park project carries an estimated $60,000 price tag, with work done in stages with more donations anticipated, Mr. Smith said.

Facilities at the park, located on several acres that extend along 7th Street, have experienced increased usage among civic and church organizations, as well as celebrations such as family reunions and birthday parties.

“We are finding this (park) is being used more and more all of the time,” said Mayor Ruff.
