| Money is what the govenor is hoping will happen with his expanded race tracks and casinos for the state. I understand Sussex County will be in the mix. New Jersey can't like this.

| I heard the Govenor does not have the support he thought he would have for the State pay cuts. That is good news for all state employees.

| Do school board members receive other free perks such as free full-page color ads in the yearbook? If this is true, these perks come from the taxpayers' pockets. Last edited on Mon Jun 8th, 2009 02:20 am by SOS

Certainly not. Do you believe that your state representative and senator are willing to wager their political futures on your loss of memory if the legislature actually did cut elmployee pay? Nope. Much easier to simply increase taxes and fees to balance the budget. Like Robin Hood - take from the have and distribute to the have-nots. They know the employees would never forget or forgive a pay cut, but they do believe the taxpayers will.

The 8% will probably fly unless some area politicians are afraid of not getting re-elected. They are also looking at 3 furlough days. For teachers, they will probably have to select from inservice days. It is days off without pay. In addition to the pay cuts and three days off without pay; there will be no step increases for years of experience or increases graduate hours. Oh, I forgot, medical benefits are also increasing.
If this happens, hopefully there will be no layoffs, but not necessarily true. Local districts still can make that decision in order to balance their budgets. The 8% to 10% cut is a conservative decrease when you consider everything else (step increases, insurance, and furlough days). I don't think the state unions and associations throughout the state and the peaceful protests such as "Bell-to-Bell" have made any impact. Everyone is touched. The more you make, the bigger the hit.

in what?
I was more impressed speaking of this subject with the news journal article about district salaries. of course our board president and super bashed any plans like naysayers. why are we not surprised? but the amount of money per salary for some of these distrcts spent is ridiculous! i remember in our district they did more with less admins once a upon a time! you did not have a secondary and elementary curriculum director. what a joke.
i hope these plans do go through but district admins are the only positions in this state that need to be consolodated. we can do witha few less judges too I can tell you!
