The fence makes it look like a day care prison...............

| True, but it's back off the open road, not right at one of the busiest intersections in the area, where there's a lot of stopping, idling and starting going on. Good point but not quite the same thing.

| There's been a daycare in Smyrna on Rt13 for years and no one has worried about the fumes.

If you live on the same road, the traffic would be moving by and you have the option of closing your windows, but this play yard is on a corner at a stop light. Apparently you do not live here, if you don't realize where it is located. It is not a good location for a day care. At least that is my opinion.

Unfortunately, some people have no common sense.
Have you ever been to a Nail Salon for a manicure and pedicure?
The employees are sitting there with masks on because of the dangerous
fumes from the acrylics they use, and women bring small children in there
instead of finding a sitter! There should be a law against exposing little tots
to that nasty stuff!

Sure the possibility is there but it'd be desparate person to openly snatch a kid at a busy intersection. I know if I saw something like that going on I'd be out of the car intervening.
Take a look at the high risk offenders here. I scanned thru about 20 of them. All but one are listed with a Paddock Rd address, we know where that is. The one I saw who is homeless is a kid who is 5'6 and 120lbs. My daughter would beat the tar out of someone like that.
http://sexoffender.dsp.delaware.gov/cgi-bin/sexoff.cgi/geographic
So you are right, there are a lot of vermin, but they are mostly under lock and key.
No I don't wonder where the homeless people are. They don't come near my house. A couple large dogs is a nice way to keep people away.

Snatch a kid over the fence! Not an everyday occurrance, but you better believe the possibility is there. Check the state police website and look at all the sex offender dirtbags that live in and around Smyrna and Clayton. This place is crawling with vermin.
Did you ever wonder exactly where the ones listed as "homeless" are, day or night?

Really, the placement of these day cares isn't unusual. It's just new to Smyrna. Go to the Wilmington area and see how many day cares are on main roads that have a lot of traffic. If you don't like it, don't put your kid in there. It will be very convenient for people who commute to work to have a day care right on their way in and out of town instead of driving way out of the way for it.
As far as snatching a child over the fence, do you really believe that would happen? The kids aren't going to be out there alone. There are certain ratios of kids to caretakers, and if the day care is any good, they will be heavily supervised while outside. It's a main intersection. People will be around and I'd hope that anyone who sees what amounts to a strong arm kidnapping would do something about it!

It's crazy where the building and entrance/exits are, but has anybody thought about what looks like a fenced in playground? Not only accidents and exhaust fumes, but how easy would it be for one of our "on the list pervs" or any other nut to just reach over that 4' chainlink and grab a kid? They would be long gone in a car before anybody could get around the fence to stop it. Just one more scarey thing that nobody appears to have thought about.
I wouldn't put a daycare around the old Bulldozers. With the planning that doesn't go into these, it'd be better a little further down 300 where the propane gas tanks are now. That way they could have traffic on TWO sides and the turn lane, not just one! The kid pen is already built and you could leave the gas tanks for them to climb on.
And what's worse, people will actually pay to put their kids in a place like these. Geeze, ya gotta love living in the new Smyrna!

No matter where the entrance or exit is placed, there will be a great cry from out the land, so let's not have any at all. Box them in.

Now this is from another topic but I think might fit.
Now if you'd like to tackle the zoning codes and rewrite them, I'm sure we would welcome that input and see if the majority supports it.

| I was going to say "poorly thought out" but in retrospect, I'd say not thought out at all. And who DID approve that idiotic and dangerous idea? Are they trying to maximize profits in that space? If so, at what cost? No one can put a pricetag on a life. And I would hate to see anything like that happen.

That is the plan, and I think someone has lost their mind with all the fumes from the 18 wheelers and cars. I would not want my children or grandchildren there.

Looks like they are getting ready to fence in an area out front... I hope this isn't going to be the "play" area for the kids???

It is owned by the same person who owns the Plaza. The Play yard is the piece of property on the corner. Apparently it is not finished yet. Fence and play equipment have not been installed. Who in their right mind would want their child or grandchild playing on the corner with all the exhaust fumes coming from the 18 wheelers that go by there along with the cars, etc. Not a good idea in my opinion!

| definitely a bad decision........... how long will it be before a car goes crashing thru the front windows? You have to second guess a parents decisions making skills if they enroll their child into that facility. They may have a great program ,but it's a magnet for to many bad situations that could arise

I don't think the word "academy" lends much to it. Your bathroom could be an "academy" if you keep it stocked with periodicals and newspapers to help pass the time. And what's with no place for the kiddies to play? Even DCC has a playground for the bad boys. Gonna be a bunch of mean little suckers coming out of that place. Smelling pizza, fish and chicken cooking all day, locked up with no place to play outside, traffic noise and always looking over your shoulder for the ever present molesters that proliferate our fine town. Little Johnnie gets sentenced here from birth to pre-kindergarten, when he gets sent down the street to the "big house" at North Elementary. At least there's a playground there!

There is a sign in the the window that says "Academy of Early Learning". Does that sound like a Day Care or what?

| I have another question on this. It sure doesn't look like many others care about the driveway, so a question. They say Daycare Center, now I ask myself where do the kids go out and play, will it be fenced in? To me it looks like a good spot to have a missing child, but they are just my thoughts. It sure looks like a place where three little stores will be.

So is the town going to do anything about the mess there, Ok, all you town's folks that post on here, tell me something. Time the TM, starts to earn a little of that money.

| Well the town will just say it's the state, since they are state roads, all ready tried this with the town. I think on some other of the fourms, our leaders ask for suggestions on improvement, but they can't do anything anyway, you can't fix mistakes, it pased before, so you can't touch it. So I ask the question what good are they. All I can say I am glad I don't run my life like this, but doesn't that much in the cave.

| Maybe one of you Smyrna Natives can tell me this, I know that that exit has been blocked for 20 years and I don't know how long is was before that, wouldn't there be some kind of ordinance on the books as to why it was closed off for such a long time? Was it at the owners request? Why? Perhaps a former council member or past mayor (Wright or Newnam) would know the answer to this.

| You maybe counldn't prevent it, that seems to be one of our problems we can't prevent anything. It seems after you make the first dumb decision, it's open season for the rest of the dumb decisions. And everyone pass the buck on who's responsibility it is. Just like the lights at that intersection.

Madhouse is an understatement. I'm amazed nobody has been killed by the Wal-Mart trucks barreling through there. And the Acme parking lot is like one big game of chicken....cars going every direction...crazy! Poor planning.
