LOL, point well taken. Though I think tacky is still best word. Chrome on the cars was great, but I'm still partial to stainless steel for the diners.

Some of us have fond memories of chrome.  On cars, and diners, especially.

Maybe that's why the Smyrna Diner was sent back for restoration.

Unless there is going to be a tacky chrome diner at each of these circles, I'm afraid it simply will not be anything like Jersey.

All you got to do is look across the former soy bean and corn fields and see the Monopoly game board style houses and can see that someone from New Jersey would feel right at home.

Well we cant have anyone build just to suit the locals and loose money, can we?  That kinda defeats the profit motive.  Profit is the engine that keeps the economy going.  Would you build a business that's gonna loose money just so you can please the local residents idea of something purdy to look at?  Gotta have both, I say.

The developers of these shopping centers do not seem to care about the shoppers.

It is all about how much they can squeeze into one area, it is all about the mighty

dollar.  Take the Camden Walmart for instance.  Once they developed all the surrounding pads and those businesses opened, the congestion and manuevering

in and out of Walmart lot is horrendous!

I bet if those circles were ovals, and a little bigger, the complainers could compare them to NASCAR and have nothing but praise for them. Or maybe not.  But it is interesting watching a tractor trailer try to get around them.  But I agree, somebody wasn't thinking when they made them that small.  Gonna be a lot of money spent on landscaping and road signs when that shopping center gets going full speed.

I am beginning to think the developers designed the circles to be small and

narrow because they knew gas prices were going through the roof and we

would all be traveling in small cars, motorcycles, scooters and bicycles!!

However, KC, they did not take the poor delivery guys into consideration,

I agree 100%

I can just imagine the Griswalds visiting Smyrna. Rusty falls for a clerk at the Wawa, and Clark goes to Mike's and knocks over a row of Harleys.

Right now you have a convenience store, a liquor store, and a bank.  Wait til it expands and tell me the same thing.  BTW, which one are you at several times a week?

As far as being dangerous, well its a crap shoot out there anyway. You might get it there or get creamed in your own driveway.

Circles stink for actual road traffic, but for shopping centers they are ok.  The speeds are much less so the danger like there is on a multi-lane road isn't there.

I doubt traffic circles are the Federal Standard. New Jersey has been spending millions to eliminate them because they are considered dangerous by their DOT.In another dozen years or so they'll tear them all out down here and raise your registration fees to pay for it.....Progress, ain't it grand?

Most states got rid of circles as a way to control traffic years ago.  I guess we truly are lower, slower.

I think it's a cultural thing that's going to require some education.  Us old timers figure the fastest way from point A to point B is a straight line.  Apparently the new math has overtaken us.  The wife and I went to Hardee's last night, and some young dipstick was going around and around the circle there, apparently confused about beng able to make a right at any time and leave the confusion behind.  He must have gone around 8-10 times before he either got dizzy or figured it out.  I guess Forest Gump's Mom was right, "stupid is as stupid does"!

You people do not get out much. The designs of Simons Corner are the new standard for traffic control. Look around the state, all the new shopping centers are basically designed the same to have traffic continue to move (right turns only) and funnel to a light on the main roadway (the reason for circles). It is to avoid situations like the Smyrna Mart (Acme). Look at the new buildings (commercial, medical), not in shopping centers. The entrances and exits are designed for right turn only, to prevent cross traffic (those turning left and crossing oncoming traffic or those leaving the business and turning left, crossing lane traffic). The designs of all traffic, even in commercial centers are approved by DELDOT, to their new standards. It might also be based on federal standards. Regardless, someone loves circles.

I agree, exiting the Acme parking lot is very difficult and down right dangerous. I

would stop in to shop more often but find myself avoiding the place because of

the maneuvering issue.   I was almost struck ,not once ,but twice while walking

in that lot !!  ( Referring to leaving Acme) People backing up without looking.

The Valero gas station and  7 11  are just as bad for maneuvering and exiting.

A word of caution, when using the PNC drive thru on Main St, be aware of the

kids that zip through that area with their bikes. I almost hit one of them, not

because I was exiting too fast...THEY WERE SPEEDING WHILE RIDING ON THE

SIDEWALK and before you know it they are THERE!!!!! It is near impossible to

see them coming.

We all know that the planners and designers are working for the investors/developers, to minimize costs and maximize profits.   Where are the plan reviewers??    Who are they??     Whose interest are they representing??    Somebody at the  town level is approving these plans.

Welcome all these new folks, they have really helped the town, or I will say the so called planners.  I still have a problem with the Glenwood and Main light.  Yeah but it is better then Wilmington.

Also, coming off Carter Road by the new Rite Aid, you have to go about a half mile to get to the Food Lion. Good luck though, as that light barely allows one car through at a time. Sheesh. Progress.

Whoever designed the new shopping center needs to have their head examined.

The state of New Jersey and others have been in the process of doing away

with the traffic circles that they have,.

Now for some crazy reason, the state of Delaware has them cropping up everywhere!

The one they put in Rehoboth only made the congestion worst.

I am currently going to the new shopping center, visiting WAWA and

Hardee's, but once the shopping center is complete, with all the pad sites filled,

I will not shop there  because the circles will be a nightmare once there is a lot

of stores and more traffic.
