| Stopped where? On Rte 300, the most lucrative mile of Clayton-annexed road? The citizens of Clayton should feel just a tad embarrassed about a force that is so obviously fine oriented that they lay in wait for people travelling at the very edge of their town while some of their developers have made it impossible for them to enforce the same standards of 'public safety ' on development streets they do out on a state road.

| Ben ---- not in the charter for Cheswold. The charter does not require anybody to live anywhere. The town manager, if we had one, would have to live within a distance to be specified by the town council. I think that means that the town manager could live in Philadelphia if the council agreed to it.

Do the town charters not say that the cops have to live in the town limits?

What in the world does this mean? Do you ever proof your comment before you send it?

| Apparently the Mayor and town council have no problem with it so why not? Wouldn't you if you were he? Fault the mayor, not the employee.

In addition I’ve seen the same SUV heading south when I leave DOVER AFB in the evening. My assumption is, the officer driving the SUV is living in Felton and driving back and forth to Clayton.
Crunching the numbers, that's approx 25mi one-way, 50mi+ round trip, in a 4X4 Dakota SUV, averaging 15mpg, at $3.60per gal, is approx $12 a day. That’s a little over $3000 a year; not to mention the additional wear and tear on the vehicle.
Seems like a waste of money to me. Thoughts?

No my initials are not G L I would gladly put my name here and copy all the tickets and share. And the 48 in the 45 was not dropped to that. And I want to clear one more thing up it was not a tennis ball it was the ball that goes through the hole on your bumper it was a 7/8 ball for your information. When I'm wrong I will admit I'm wrong yes I don't always obey the law but who can honestly say they do every time they get in a car we are only human.I'm going to host a fund raiser drive for the victims of Clayton. And everything I have written on here are facts.
What's the initials G L for GOOD LOOKING
OR GOOD LORD THEY GOT SOMEONE AGAIN.

| Yeah, there are always two sides to a story. Usually when someone says they got a ticket for less than 5 over the limit, what they really mean is that they were doing more than 10 or 15 over, the cop gave them a break and wrote it for less to save them points and fine money. It sounds bett for someone who wants to complain to say they got a "ticket" for 3 over. Maybe the Clayton cop piled the charges on because of a less than pleasant attitude of the driver. Only he and the driver really know for sure. Watch cops on tv. You see disrespectful drivers on that show all the time.

Thanks for reposting and making it more clear.
The tickets that your husband got, 4 of them for the motorcycle violation on School Lane is a perfect example of a Poiceman "loading it up", and milking a violater for everything they can. They should have been content with the failure to stop citation. The Town of Clayton ought to be ashamed. There is a perfect example of bringing up revenue with unnecessary charges.
A more reasonable officer would have looked the other way on 48 in a 45, tennis ball blocking the plate, and 30 in a 25 especially if school wasn't in session. Its a hard call with the stop sign on Alley corner but at least your honest enough to admit you did it.
Of course this is just your side of the story.

Let me break it down for the record so no is confused.
(!) I was driving on Alley Corner Road had a fire truck with lights flashing and siren on I merged to the right coasting through stop sign trying to clear the way for Emergency vehicle yes I admit I did not stop completely but, yes I got a ticket.
(2) I was driving west on Rt.300 by Bid Master's got stopped for 48 in a 45 yes a ticket.
(3) I was driving on School lane heading toward Southern States speed limit on sign 35 went to Southern States got what I needed left there went toward Clayton School I was going 30. Did not know that the side of the road where the school is 25 MPH cause the school is on that side so go and LOOK for yourself But I do know that it is 20 MPH when any school is in session. Yes I got a ticket.
(4) I was driving on Main Street Clayton in a truck with a Ball on the bumper that came from the dealer with it on there not a tennis ball a ball to pull a trailer.Could not see the numbers on my tag plate.Yes I got a ticket.
(1) My husband got stop on School lane heading to Kenton did not put both feet down.NO he did not drop the bike.He got a ticket.
(2) My husband got stopped on School Lane got stopped for not having to helmets on the bike yet it only has on seat on it.Yes he got a ticket.
(3) My husband got stopped on School Lane did not have his registration on him but it was in his wallet did not know I put it behind his photos.Yes he got a ticket.
(4) My husband on School Lane did not STOP AT A STOP SIGN THE OFFICER SAID BUT YET HE WAS BEHIND A SCHOOL BUS.
Yes it was all on one ticket not all at different times.
So now this is everyone in my family that has gotten a ticket are you ready Dad,Mom,Brother,Nephew

| Amen, a little proof reading would be helpful. It's hard to follow your complaint. I certainly hope this doesn't turn out to be another speed trap thread. There is no law about how many feet you have to have on the ground at a stop sign. There must be more to this story. Did the m/c fall over? Call 653-8186 to find out when their next town council meeting is. Or better yet, voice your complaint with Chief Brian Hill instead of on here first. At least give him a chance to solve your problem without blowing it out of proportion on a public forum.

I can name at least 6 Police Officers from both Smyrna & Clayton that have said it is such a problem with the petty tickets....
You need to rewrite this post so that it makes some sense.

I can guess who the Barney Fife wannabe is without any more info...one who you'd love to see off duty some time and show him what real life is about.
Hartlyboy, you are exactly right. There are a couple of the Clayton headcount who are entirely funded by revenue. Not all of them, but more than one are. Why does Clayton even need a police force? They don't even have a place to hold prisoners, they have to engage Smyrna police for that.

| C'mon, folks. Small town police are about revenue. That's why you see vigorous stake-outs on Rte 300 halfway to Kenton where there are no Clayton citizens to "Serve and Protect". Being fair to the guys behind the radar, they are doing what they have been told to do. If you want to change that, vote different next time.

| It's no surprise the cops target innocent people here. I've seen it first hand and it is frigntening. They thrive on that - and that's fricking pathetic.
