The Sussex County Community Organized Regiment (SCCOR) has finalized a platform to show people how it scores the issues. The platform is as follows:
SCCOR on the Issues
National Defense: We believe in peace through strength. The surest way to secure our own borders, resist terrorism both at home and abroad and to assist our allies in their own protection is to speak softly while carrying a big stick, enforce existing immigration laws and display strong support for those with whom we are allied.
Economy: We believe in preserving free market capitalism, the vehicle by which America has developed into the most influential nation in the world. The only proven means by which an economy can flourish is to ensure the free, uninhibited exchange of currency by limiting government regulation at all levels and maintaining a low tax burden. The laws of supply and demand, not government manipulation, should be the only guiding principle of such an economy.
Morality: We believe that there is a societal obligation to maintain the preservation of traditional family values and to uphold the sanctity of life. In order for a people to endure, morality must be taught, cherished and passed on. The values of discipline, hard work and personal responsibility are becoming a lost treasure. We need to preserve those simple concepts before we lose them.
Domestic Policy: We believe that the government which works best is the smallest, leanest and most efficient government that is effectively able to fulfill its Constitutional duties. For this nation to prosper, it is essential to downsize both the cost and scope of our government bureaucracy, entitlement programs, regulations and taxes. Government cannot be all things to all people and efforts aimed in that direction should cease. Government should exist to do only the few things that the individual or private industry cannot do; and government should do those few things well. We believe in government that does only what it must, not all that it can.
Climate Change: We believe that the earth has, from the beginning, been subjected to a cycle of both warming and cooling periods that are absolutely necessary, and are appointed for the sustainability of all living things. We believe the theory of Climate Change being a man made phenomenon is inconsistent with factual scientific data, and the use of the theory of climate change for the purpose of the imposing levies and taxes is inconsistent with the longstanding heritage of our free nation.
Representation in Government: We favor Incumbency Limits as opposed to Term Limits for members of Congress or the General Assembly. This would limit the number of consecutive terms that a legislator could hold a particular seat, but would not preclude someone from running in the future for the same, or for a different seat.
Gun Rights: We believe the right of the people to keep and bear arms should not be infringed, and further we emphatically support the 20th Amendment to the Delaware Constitution which reads: "A person has the right to keep and bear arms for the defense of self, family, home and State, and for hunting and recreational use."
Regardless on one's political affiliation, if this platform appeals to an individual, please, explore the website at http://www.sccor.org or attend the next meeting. The next meeting is July 7th, 2009 at 7:30 pm at the American Legion #28. The guest speaker is Ron Sams.
