| Ryan did not write his own contract. Didn't you read the depos from all the Councilmen that fired him?

A contract Ryan wrote himself, again I won't question the legality of it, but ethically boy it sure stinks to high heaven.

| Hey guys, get over it. The Council signed a contract with Ryan then breached it. End of story. What don't you understand about that? Why don't you sue the Council for making all those mistakes that were made? Ryan was just another employee the Council made all the decisions. I know I would be suing too if my employer did that crap to me.

See you get my point. At no time was there a proper search for a town manager. The council and Mayor (which did the hiring and Charter change) are the ones to be blamed for this whole fiasco. Who was setting next to the town Mayor in Dover working to get the Charter change pushed through? Who was it that said they would not be able to hire a town manager with any job qualifications with the salary they were offering? How do you know you can't get any qualified applicants when the position was never even open to the public to apply? And you wonder why the towns people questioned the whole process and asked for him to be removed.

| Zymergy, gordo will not address that because of direct knowledge that the process was -- at best -- tainted by the then-mayor hiring his buddy council member Ryan to fill a position created for Ryan -- town manager. The town has no business that requires a full time town manager, and but for Ryan's pulling a business license scheme out of the hat with which to fleece the few businesses in the town, cheswold would also not have the funds to pay his handsome wages.

Tell me again about the job search...how many applicants were interviewed for position besides Ryan, and was Ryan part of the search being on the council at the time?

| When are you two going to realize Mr. Ryan's hiring was the result of the Town Council - not Mr. Ryan. Get off it and let it go.

| NH is a lovely state. Lots of charming towns with names like Milton, Greenville, Milford, Dover, and my favorite, Foxhead Point. He should feel right at home.

| Some might be more willing to agree except for the manner in which Mr. Ryan was hired by the town. That matter still has a funny smell about it. After he was hired he accomplished nothing noteable for the town at all. I wish him well in New Hamshire.

| You jerks will never learn. We have desperately missed Ryan ever since he was illegally fired and we still miss him today. Some of us just can't stand to see Ryan finally happy again. I wish him well. He deserves all good things that may come his way. That town in New Hampsjhire is lucky to have him and we all know it.

Now now, give credit where it's due. As in the past, it appears that he still is more than willing to begin work earlier than anticipated. That has to count for something.

| LOL Mr. Ryan will be paid 55,000 first year to do work for a real town, which means he was vast over paid by getting 51,000 from no work in cheswold. That info will do him no good in his suit. The nice things said about him in the NH newspaper article were said by people who have just met him - they may feel differently by october, too.

Looks like more ammunition Ryan can use for his lawsuit against Cheswold. This just goes on and on and the price is going up and up. I think I'm going to start looking for a place in New Castle County to get away from all this. It's getting scary.

| OK. Understood. Back to Helen, then. It is not she up against Mr. Ryan -- it's the town council -- principally the former town council, is it not? Helen had nothing to do with his being fired. Complaining about public employees wages, benefits, responsibilities, and performance are free speech prerogatives and if Helen thought those things about the then-council members, Mr. Ryan, and the terms of his employment, she had a right to say them. Whether she is right is a matter of opinion, as is her evaluation of the circumstances surrounding those matters.

Gordo -- While I might perceive that Helen is not a big supporter of Mr. Ryan in his attempt to clean out the town via a lawsuit, I also perceive that she has "no dog in this fight." Am I missing something here? Does she have something to gain or lose? She has not chosen to oppose Mr. Ryan as your post suggests, has she?Last edited on Wed Dec 26th, 2007 01:34 am by Observant

| Seems odd that Mr. Ryan's lawyers would wait this late to take dispositions from Sen. Cook, Rep. Thornburg, and Ms. Plummer. Maybe the case hinges on their knowledge? Nah, that could not hardly be. And this seems to be the real reason for a continuance - somebody is getting shaky about their facts and the case. And it isn't the town! Last edited on Sun Dec 16th, 2007 09:34 pm by Olive
