Show jumping event in Okeechobee
Spectators admitted FREE!

Okeechobee News
Okeechobee County will host their first equestrian world event, The First Coast Invitational at the Okeechobee County Agri-Civic Center beginning Thursday, Nov. 20.
This event is free to spectators who can come watch the show jumping competitions each day beginning at 9 a.m. The event will continue for a total of seven days: Nov. 20 through 23; and Nov. 28, through 30.
Featured Grand Prix events will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, and Sunday, Nov. 30, both beginning at noon with opening ceremonies.
All events are free admission for spectators!
This event is the vision of Bill Joyce, President and CEO of Worldwide Horse Show Services, which brings the excitement of Show Jumping to the everyday person as a spectator event. Show Jumping has been an Olympic event since the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris and the equestrian events are the only Olympic events in which men and women compete directly against each other.
The event is European in origin, however the United States is considered a “world power” in the sport.
This is an exciting addition to Okeechobee County in that it has been known to bring a major boost to the economy at the event’s previous location. The First Coast Invitational was held in Jacksonville last year at the Jacksonville Equestrian Complex where just a four day event generated $577,220 of direct spending to the Jacksonville area with an estimated $963,951 in total economic impact. These numbers are expected to increase with the expansion of the event this year to encompass nine days, rather than only four.
The event is expected to draw equestrians with approximately 200 horses.
Each week during the event there will be a unique and different competition paired with the show jumping. The goal of the Worldwide Horse Show Services is to build the event into a national attraction with world class equestrians from all arenas and make these equestrian events available to a very diverse audience.
This event is similar to other equestrian events held in Wellington and the winter circuit in Ocala and will have a significant impact on the local economy.
Last year the First Coast Invitational had record entries in the Saturday Grand Prix and Mini Prix for an event of its size and ranked seventh out of 34 events held at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center.
