The Clewiston Elks lodge held there annual Flag day ceremony Saturday June 13th. It is a holiday that the Elks started. In 1907 the Elks Grand Lodge designated June 14th as flag day. The Elks celebrated it as a fratenity until 1949 when President Harry Truman, an Elks member himself, proclaimed it as a national holiday.
It is celebrated by a ritualistic ceremony that honors the history of our great flag from the beginning. Many flags are honored in this ceremony.
The Clewiston Elks would like to thank James Griffith, Kyle Roque, Darin Diaz, Zachary Counts, Shane Serrot, and the Boy Scout leaders of Boy Scout Troop # 619 for presenting the flags during our ceremony.
