What do you think they will/can do if you acost them on the street or at meetings? They have the upper hand. You can vote them out next election and replace them with---whom? The main thing they have done wrong is spend thousands of dollars on studies---to tell them what? I would assume the state of Florida has rules and guidelines and all they had to do is follow them without paying the big shots to do their studies. The former mayor wanted to bet our future on her dream of drawing in rich people who would build expensive homes and be needing water from the city. So they delayed and delayed, trying to come up with multimillion dollar plans to provide for all the supposed new growth in the outlying areas. Well, guess what? After fiddling away all that time and most of our money, it is nearly gone and we are left without what we need to build even a system that will accomodate the population we have as it is. I have always been in favor of thrift, but many of the city bigwigs have not always. What if we had gone along with the most expensive proposal they put in front of us back when?
Go ahead and demand what you want. It will do nothing but cost us more. All of us.

I am all for giving them hell about it. It's a shame I don't live in the city limits. So I can not vote them out of office like the rest of you can.
It's well known that I live in a "water" district, so I get to pay 150% for my "water". Thanks queen sherri! My water bill runs on average 40 dollars a month, and unlike yours it does NOT include trash on it, that is just water! My MANDATORY trash bill is 220 a year that is on my property taxes.
So, I pay 480 dollars a year for water, I am sure I can not drink. I am sure should not cook, bathe, wash, and waiting for the EPA to tell me I can NOT FLUSH A TURD with!

Well I asked the simple question of "Do you filter your water" when I have gone into a local resteraunt. Knowing the quality of the city's water, I asked that question. All the ones that I have used, all said no, they do not filter their water. I know that ice machines have their own filter, but most have had to remove those filters because of the quality of the water. I don't have to see a filter like yours under your sink, there are types that filter water right out of a pitcher.

Uhm, exactly how would you know if they filtered it?
Honestly, a filter would not be where you could see it from the table, at least you cant see the one under my sink from my table.
As for ice machine's the very nature of the ice maker dictates a filter of exceptional quality, or it wont make ice long. Its the big tube thing you see beside every ice maker you have ever gotten close to.
Not claiming to have knowledge of if a particular restaurant filters its water, just asking how you can make such a claim of knowledge?

Queen Sherri will tell you it is a money maker and King Mike says it's the best we can do. Bet they won't drink the water.

| Before, it had a strong chlorine smell. Now it smells like something you would dip out of a puddle in the ditch.

Does anyone know if any local restaurants filter the water before they wash veggies, cook or make ice with the nasty Labelle water?

It's called nothing lasts forever. The plant is outdated, overworked, and simply needs replacing. No more studies, no more speculation, no more operators.
REPLACEMENT. Port LaBelle Utilities just built a reverse osmosis plant and the water is great!.
Why doesn't the City of LaBelle use the line that ties between the Port LaBelle Plant and their plant to transfer water for emergency, pay to have the Port LaBelle Plant expanded a bit, and use that water instead of DRAGGING this on and on and on.
Control, that's why. Simple answer but loss of power.

Here's a quote from queen sherry
" WATER is a PROFITABLE business."
I was there, she said it in a open commission meeting. It was always her intent to drag all of the unincorporated area's into the water game, as she could charge them 150% of what the city paid, legally. They charge that now if you get water in a "water" district, you are charged more.
d**n shame you still cant drink the d**n stuff, safer to dip it out of a ditch after the rain.

| What do you mean where did I get my information? If you doubt it, ask some people who know. The information came from city council members as they discussed and discussed and paid for study after study to the tune of thousands of dollars of our money. The question of how to proceed with water for the town has been batted around for years. I saw it taking place at the council meetings. Because of the constant rift between the city and county over right of first refusal and all that, in trying to grab the power over who gets the money rights to sell to residents, we have had to sit here and wait for SOMEBODY to do something that needed doing to get us some decent water. At one time they were promoting a 38 million dollar program to send water over/under the bridge, and send it way west of town also. If I remember correctly there was an alternative at the time that would have cost us 18 million which they did not persue because they were hoping to make a great big business of selling water to all these rich home builders who were going to be building and taking up residence in the LaBelle area. Well you know what happened to the housing industry. Now years have gone by, prices have increased, and we can barely afford to do what we should have earlier on.

Maybe they are using more clorine than lime these days. It sure is a big pia that you can go all your life without the niceties and then in your retirement years you are finally able to have a dishwasher, fridge with icemaker, new faucet sets as they are needed, etc., only to find that you cannot have the use of them because the water is so awful. It doesn't matter what brand of dishwashing detergent I use, what rinse clean chemical, the dishes simply do not come out clean. I do the dishes by hand in the sink and use the dishwasher for nothing more than a big dishrack. I recently tried to run some vinegar through it to see if it would straighten anything out, but to no avail. Something is messed up inside it. The water won't pump out. This dishwasher is not old. Considering how little it has been used you might say it is new.
Forget about dispensing ice cubes. I wouldn't put any from city water into my tea for anything. In spite of the paid for conveniences, I have to buy water and fill ice cube trays the old fashioned way.
If the city had followed the proper course years ago this wouldn't be happening. They thought they had to service everyone in the far outreaches of the area, which caused years of delay in doing what they should have done in the first place, which is taking a less expensive course of action to simply supply the city of LaBelle with good water. Now after all the delays, prices for everything have tripled and we can barely afford to build what we basically need.

| I agree Johnnie....The chlorine is so strong that it smells like when we chlorine the pool. It tastes nasty and there was a water break last week and I never got a boil water notice, even called the city about it and have never heard back. Did anyone else get one? I guess the new guy is no better then the other one.

Getting back on topic
All over town the signs "DO NOT DRINK THE WATER" no ice, no water, canned drinks only.
Something or someone is not working in LaBelle!
but the bill's are up and that system is working just fine, love paying for swamp water unfit even for an animal I have to buy bottled water for pets. Whats up with that.

suchBS-- what a dumb ass, you must be Dan's wife
The city did hire another licensed operator, from the county.
Mike never made Dan do all the of his illegal activities.
Dan made Dan do them, and yes he is going to lose his license. They are going after Dans waster water license as well, hope he has deep pockets.
Leave Lenetta, out of this a**hole

| Wow someone has offended you, oh so sorry. I didn't realize any of you people have morals. After reading half of the blogs you ALL have wrote I am just dumb founded!!! I believe the person you are in your personal life totally reflex the person you are on the job. And Mike Boyle is a pervert. I knew Lenetta she was a wonderful person, and died way to soon. Yes he has the right to live his life however he wants, but during the relay for life, we all wore shirts for lenetta, but NO NOT MIKE, he was out walking with his new girlfriend. That discussed me. To the point, irregardless of that personal decision that Mike made, he is still a piece of work. He sucks at his job, he allows things to happen, and then makes other people take the fall. I find it crappy that you scuzzy Labelle people can run your mouth about people, but as soon as something offends you, its "HOW DARE YOU"! Just like people in Labelle, they can dish it, but cant take it. LMAO!!!

I have city water, and have had it for years. While I am not a fan of city hall, nore Mike Boyle. Far be it from me to suggest maybe he has run his race and is due to retire. However, you have no business sticking your nose in how he copes with the death of his wife.
I knew her. She had cancer for a long time. I am quite certain that while she was prepared for the end, she certainly did her best to prepare her family for her leaving. You have no rite to judge them. Heaven forbid it was your family, struggling with the loss of you.
Fling all the mud you like, but keep it on track if you don't mind. You are really offending me with that crap.

F.Y.I...... If wack-off Dan the man, had been doing his job right in the first place, we would have had drinkable water!!! DUHHHH Dan should spend less time with his magazines and more time "ON THE J.O.B!!!" more things could get accomplished that way, ( ya think??) And I'm not that great of a fan of Mike Boyle.... But before you air dirty laundry... you should check your own. People do what they have to do in order to move on. Some people stay alone and live a lonley life, some people need to have some type of companionship in order to move on. The feeling of emptyness..... is far greater than anything you could ever begin to imagine, unless you've lived through it. (R.I.P Lenetta... we love you & miss you )

| I thought this was talking about the water. What Mike does in his personal life has nothing to do with it. I hope he finds happiness because his wife would have wanted that. I do agree, I wouldn't drink the water! Last edited on Wed May 27th, 2009 06:34 pm by labelletruth

| Who do you get your info from? They didn't hire a new guy to run the water plant, he isn't even licenced. He is going around reading meters, ooh hoo what a big guy. And as for Dan losing his license thats not true either. Maybe you should go straight to the source. And as for anything wrong with the water, that would be MIKE BOYLE. He is a liar and a coward. He tells Dan to do things but doesn't have his back when its done. Oh well, what do you expect from a city manager that his wife dies and a week later he has a girlfriend. What a nasty little town this is.

Boo
The City hired a new guy for the water plant
In one weeks time the water looks better and smells better
because he is running the disinfection properly
Tell me its the machinery, not the operator
Ha Ha Ha Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Yes. I did some checking at the state utilities commission yesterday. I don't think they can do anything, but they point to:
Department of Environmental Protection
Citizen Services
3900 Commonwealth Boulevard M.S. 49z
Tallahassee, Florida 32399
850-245-2118 (phone); 850-245-2128 (fax)
http://www.dep.state.fl.us
I plan to do further looking today. There has to be a way, and this may be it.
Thanks.

Hello all,
Does anyone know if there honestly is a way to force the city to either give us potable water or stop charging for it? Some kind of government big daddy that can spank the little city folks?
I sent a letter to the Sunday News this weekend. I mean, what nerve they have charging us for this mess... and we don't even have the choice to opt out!
I believe I am going to start keeping my receipts and send a monthly bill to the City of LaBelle for everything that is ruined by their water. I have to change my 6 month filters every other month!
