Mr. Murphy is still out and about town but you may not have seen him because he is spending his time in our schools looking out for the best interest of your children. He has not been handed an easy term. We are facing the biggest budget crisis that we've ever seen and he has had some very difficult decisions to make. He was also shown that there were serious issues with one of our LaBelle schools and Mr. Murphy has worked swiftly and justly to remove the current administration and appoint a new Principal that will lead us into the future. If you think he is protecting the "Good ole' boy system", you should attend one of the board meetings and you'll see that he has had to go against the grain lately and face issues head-on that Mr. Conners and Mr. Cooper would (and did) sweep under the rug.

I agree that what was said at the LaBelle High School Commencement Ceremony was unfortunate. However, public speaking is a very difficult thing and even the President of the United States gets nervous at times and says the wrong thing (Look at Bush).

You can't stand it that we now have someone in office that doesn't just role over and play the GOOD OLD BOY system.  People of Labelle and Clewiston are sick of the good old boy system.  Why do you think we elected Rick.  He has been fair and supportive.  Just because he make a couple of mistakes in a speech doesn't make him unqualified for his job.  People in glass house shouldn't throw stones even if you are a good old boy.

How is it that Rick is qualified when NO ONE knows of these qualifications? We all know how Good ole Boys can ruin a good thing. He might be a lifetime friend of yours but being a good friend doesn't make him a leader of something as important as our children's education issues. As for not being out in the public eye, I saw Mr Upthegrove and Mr Connor at our schools and around town when they were supers. Yes we do all make mistakes but to make them one right after the other come on, is he not a muture adult that knows how to talk and does he not actually know where he is at or what. As for the "Dr" in front or behind his name, that isn't an issue wth me because the candidate that SHOULD have won doesn't flaunt it at either end of his name. The man that is probably helping Rick keep his head above the water. Mr Scott Cooper. THAT is the person that should be super.

I have known Rick Murphy all his life and he one of the hardest working people you will ever meet.  Yes he was "everywhere" when he was campaigning and if he was "everywhere" now that would be issue because he was out and about.  You just can't please some people.  However, his qualifications are right up there with the best of them.  Just because you have a "Dr." in front of your name like one of the candidates doesn't make you a better choice;  believe me, just ask the people at CHS.  And as for the other candidate, well we are aware of the issues there.  Rick Murphy was probably one of the the best school board members we have ever had and Hendry County should be thankful they have him as a Superintendent.  As for a mistake made at graduation we all make mistakes.  However, it sounds as though some of you may be "perfect" in all aspects of your lives.  At least your staff showed up at graduation in LaBelle and that is more than you can say for some of the sorry staff members at CHS.  It was an embarrassment for Hendry County and the staff itself to see empty seats out there for kids who had worked so hard for 12 years.

Rick worked hard at pulling the wool over the eyes of LaBelle residents. He was at every event, corner , restaraunt he was everywhere but I haven't laid eyes on him since the election and it isn't because he is busy doing his job.

Oh PULEEZE working hard to win the race is not even comparable to at least doing a half way decent job at the race you won.  Many of the individuals who are in charge in this town have no businees in their position,  my 18 year old could do a better job.

I don't know what happened at the graduation but I do know the man is passionate about his job. Mr. Murphy worked hard to win the race.

What were you people thinking electing a man who has no business being in charge of our schools??? What credentials does Rick Murphy have? Did anyone even bother to check them? He doesn't even know what town he is in. I guess we can all see by his behavior at LABELLE'S graduation that he isn't the brightest crayon in the box. Come on LaBelle ban together and get this guy replaced. Our children deserve better than THAT!!!

Superintendent Rick Murphy opened the speech agenda by saying he did not have much to say. He proceeded to thank Clewiston High School teachers for educating the graduating seniors in LaBelle. Next, the soon-to-be graduates were urged to "settle for less". Ask someone who attended about the stay or go-away finale. I do not want repercussions. I was, simply, disappointed.

Chelsey Ramos lifted the mood with her inspirational presentation.
