| That is it, I did hear the "benchwarmers" got a few innings in when the team was up by a lot...(guess they couldn't do any damage then). Also, coaches having kids on the team doesnt help because even if their kid isn't one of the best, they still get to play...So yeah, it all comes back to favoritism and the GOBS, and there is some intimidation in there too of coaches worrying about a parents feelings because they socialize in the community with them or work or play sports with them on the side. I'm getting used to how this works year after year. More power to the benchwarmers...at least the games they did get to play in were the 2 games that were won...can't blame them on the losses.

It is favoritism. My kids have experienced it on many occasions both during the regular season and during all stars. When people who run OCRA can tell you that the best kids did not make all stars, what does that tell you. How about one of the coaches who wasn't supposed to even coach all stars, because he did not participate in the 1 fundraiser there was, and he was not only a coach, but the HEAD coach.
Great job to the boys for going as far as they did, but it is truly a shame that the benchwarmers didn't get to play. When you're losing by a number of runs, you get everyone in the game. Obviously the stars weren't producing runs, so why not take a chance that someone can come off the bench and do a better job. Any given day, kids may or may not play well. You never know.
I'm not shocked however, because I have had kids in the league for many years, and favoritism and GOBS (Good ole boy syndrome) run rampant. Just not enough new people to come in and do a complete overhaul, so we have to put up or shut up when it comes to the league. At the very least, it gets our kids involved in sports, which is better than some of the other things they could be doing.

I'm not there BBmom, but here's my 2 cent. Maybe the coach's feel (and I
know they are all stars) they aren't sp called "playing" like an all-star as far
as hitting he ball consistently, having their "head" mentally in the game.
Sometimes, especially in all-star competition, it's who the coach's feel who
will take them the far into the touney who gets to play.

I hope its the same team, it'd be a shame to lose any of the boys, even the few that were underused most of the time, Did not understand that or think that it was fair to those boys and I don't think there is any logical explanation except favoritism or fear. PLEASE correct me if this is wrong, it's been a while, but some things never change.
Isn't making "all stars" about the best being together on the team? That's what I thought! How bout some comments here. Why put kids on a team, practice them ALL summer, win your region/district, go to state, and not play them?

| The boys did very well and gained a ton of experience. Proud of each of them as they never gave up. They came from behind twice in two very exciting games. And, they came close to a third thrilling win. Thanks to all that supported and were a part of this experience. I know the team will come back strong as 14's next year. Can't wait to see it happen.

Well it's over, the boys did awesome, can't say the same for the rest though.
They lost 7-6 to Central Sports (not sure where they are from), but I'm sure the
experience was great and they'll just have to return next year and win it.
Thanks for all the support!!!

| 13's won today 5-4 against Spring Hill....They play at noon Monday (CST), and if they win they play again at 4 (CST). Hope the coaches know what they are doing, it's more important at this point compared to the Sat. game (loss #1). Favoritism won't win the game. Skill will! GO CHOBEE 13's

| I know the 13's won today but I am not sure of the score since they played at the same time we did. 14's won today 4-2 against vernon (the team that creamed bartow). I will have a write up and pics later today.

Great write up teachin...hope the okechobee news gets this & puts in the
pictures as well. It started out bad for the 13 year olds & got worse. Maybe a
break here & there would have gotten something started for Okee.

Jitters? Hate to say it, but they had a can of whoop butt opened on them.
They have to get it thru their heads that ALL these teams here are the best of
the best, and unless you bring your "A" game with mental as well with the
physical part of the game, you will be sent home early.

Just a quick note:
13 year olds had a bit of the opening jitters and lost to Marianna (host team) 11-1. I will have more details after I am finished uploading pics.
Don't forget you can listen to the game at http://www.jockjive.com.
They archive all the games. I will also have slideshows on the blog later tonight.
http://okee13allstars.blogspot.com
They play tomorrow at 4 PM against Springhill.
I'll have more details as soon as things settle down for the night.

There's been a schedule change ... our first game is already won. West Jackson had an injury and they had to forfeit the tournament. So, we won't play until Sunday.
14 year olds will practice tomorrow and then go at 4 to support the 13 year olds.

You can check out the blog. There is a slideshow of action shots at the bottom of the blog.
Tomorrow the 14 year olds play the championship game against sebring at 12 Noon. We really would like to have a large crowd so those of you who can steal away a few hours come on down and cheer us on. This will be the last appearance for all of these boys for their Dixie Youth careers. We want it to be very memorable.
Don't forget to check out the blog for the 13 year olds and leave comments for the team and/or individual players. This will be up and running all through states.

Thank you! I have heard through the grapevine that games for today are as follows:
13 year olds play at 11:00 against Sebring
Clewiston and Sebring 14 year olds play at 4:00 ~ loser is eliminated.
Okeechobee 14 year olds play the winner at 7:00.
Okeechobee and Sebring 13 year olds each have a loss so todays game is the final championship game.
Okeechobee 14 year olds are undefeated. Sebring or Clewiston (whoever wins) has one loss and must beat Okeechobee twice to take the championship title.
I have not verified these but if any of you are looking for something to do, come on over to the fields at 11, 4 and/or 7 and cheer for our boys. This will be the last Chobee appearance for our 14 year olds and we want it to be humungous.

I have created a blog / website for our thirteen year old boys Jr. Dixie Boys. This site will enable visitors to send comments to the boys for encouragement. I had done this in the past for the boys who went to the world series. I also plan to create a new one for teh fourteen year old boys after districts. I will provide the links for the new page for the thirteen year olds as well as the page for the boys who went to the series.
Check them out and you can leave comments. The boys love reading the comments and can get quite competitive about how many comments they have. Spread the word and get this site out to friends, relatives, etc.
