If WE are controlling the OIL then why are we paying 4 dollars a gallon for it... We are not there to control the oil, we are there to fight terrorism where it needs to be fought, on their ground, and FYI, the war on Terror will never end. There will always be extremists who hate Americans and the freedoms that we stand for. They will always hate that we freely worship God, and they will hate that we restrain them from coming onto our soil and killing our people...
Truthfully, I think you need to look at the bigger picture, and I dont mean to be rude, but you sound a bit Naive.

Its strategy kids.
If we control the Middle East, we control the oil.
And THEN once all that oil is gone guess who has it all?
America.
Under our soil, off our coasts.
Strategy.
In the here and now its barbaric, but history...she paints a different story.
Villians are hero's and Murderers are Martyr's.
This is why Bush keeps talking about how "History will judge my Presidency." In 40 years the story will be different.

The US and other countries have never stopped the original mission, that being going after those that attacked the US on September 11, 2001. That search has been ongoing. People have only focused on the US Military presence in Iraq. Attacks on our military have been taking place in Afghanistan as well.
With reference to Why we went to Iraq? (I had posted this same link in another thread when the same question was raised) This was posted by a soldier in Iraq when someone else posted a similar dig against our military presence in Iraq.
It is the opinion of Kim, the soldier who posted it, that this describes why she is there, and why she hopes the Military will be allowed to complete the mission.

It would appear that if voters thought making Sen. Obama President would bring the troops brought back to US they better think again.
He spoke about his plan to remove the Military stationed in Iraq but it was not as I had understood it a week ago. Didn't he tell the US Citizens he hoped to be able to bring 2 divisions a month out of there. Most I think believed they would be coming home to the US. Today he said that his plan is to re deploy the Military in Iraq into Afghanistan, 2 divisions a month, and go forward with the original mission, that being the War against terrorism by focusing on Bin Laden and Al-Queda.
He said he believed that that area of the world was the central hub of terrorism in the world today.
He further stated after talking with the US Military Generals stationed there as well as the members of the government there that the the situation is "precarious" and "urgent" and that there is no end in sight, and that this point we need to be in this for the long haul.
He also spoke on the Pakistan issues. He stated that we do quite a bit with Pakistan. He is hopeful that Pakistan will not want to loose what we do there and will be more willing to work with the US on the issue of harboring suspected terrorists.
It was quite interesting and I have not yet been able to find a link that might re-broadcast this interview but I will keep on looking.

If the above link does not function right go to http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/ftn/main3460.shtml and click on Obama in Afganistan.
