| There were a some of smash and grab car burglaries today in Okeechobee. Thanks to the City of Okeechobee Police Department, the culprits are already spending the night in the May's Inn. Way to go City Police!!!! I don't know how true it is, but I heard it was a group of women and they even had the nerve to bring a young child with them, on their "shopping" spree!

The funny thing is, he is not from here. I know this for a fact because I live here year round and know who comes and goes in this park. I did report him to the OCSO, but it seems that they either don't care or the guy lied to them about carrying the knife. Wonder if he'll get off as easy as the guy who hit the OCSO deputy and then ran?

| Am curious as to what the law is when carrying a weapon, whether it is a knife or a firearm. I am having a problem with a private individual who consistently carries an open knife in his hand. Is it legal?

Quite often I work from home. At least I am there and not away from my wife. I get to be home where I love to be, more work gets done and it saves the city some overtime.

Tell us what you know about gangs in Okeechobee. So you know:
City Gang Officer OPD: Detective Bettye Taylor - 863-763-5521
County Gang Officer OCSO: Detectives Brad Stark and Brian Lowe - 863-763-3117
You do not have to give your name.......
Thanks for the help

| I am hoping that all of you who will be out there partying will at least designate yourselves a SOBER DRIVER to get you home safe and to p[ossibly save someone's life. Please don't think that you can drive after one or two drinks. Sometimes you may not feel drunk but trust me you probably are according to the law of .08. Please take into consideration that the life you save may be your own.

Be dilligent tonight... Watch for friends who are going to drive drunk and stop them... Take their keys and run if you have to, but stop them... If they threaten to call the law, call for them (911) and hand the cop the keys when he gets there... Start the new year with life...
If you see a DUI... CALL 911 AND BE PREPAIRED TO GIVE A LOCATION OR LANDMARK - STAY ON THE PHONE - OUR MEN WILL FIND YOU... IF POSSIBLE, FOLLOW SAFELY UNTIL WE GET THERE...
Thank you...

Both were ejected from the vehicle during the crash, according to this report. http://www.wpbf.com/news/18178458/detail.html It did not say whether or not they were wearing seat belts, but ejection usually means no seat belt.
A horrible tragedy in any case. Life can be gone in an instant.

I never understood that. When an older woman lost her roof during a hurricane. My husband and his boss from work went and rebuilt it for her with just the cost of materials no labor costs. Something that I see here in Okeechobeans.
My husband wants to move back however for me I am staying here I don't have family here in Florida and I have alot of friends that I call family.
All the stuff that happened in PSL yes there was alot which was near the Gatlin area. I never heard of it near my house (does not mean it wasnt there) however if I felt unsafe I wouldn't have stayed. There seemed to be alot of Pot houses at one point all over PSL that were shut down (Thank god for good detectives). I think even some on the Prima Vista area.
No matter where we go there will be crime however I see here in PSL that people help each other and if we all stick together and just keep our eyes open and notice anything wrong we won't have that much crime here.
Tess: Be assured that Okeechobee is a great town. Compared to many other locations, we are very safe here. Obviously we have our share of problems. Be assured if you need us, you call us, we'll come a runnin.

Editor,
By all means, make your self safe first. If your not sure what is going on inside your home, stop... You may very well be a victim, but a dead victim can tell me the investigator very little. I personally like live, safe, secure victims who are able to speak with me and give detailed information.
In this example she could give me a vehicle description, tag number, description of the offenders, their race and sex, clothing, direction of travel. By all means this person was very brave and I tip my hat to them for that. HOWEVER - I'm not sure what is worth trading for a life....? Comments???

Please - please - please........!
Talk with you friends, neighbors, relatives about being safe and securing Y'ALLS STUFF.
Times are horribly hard for many right now. Some will make the poor choice of robbing or stealing over doing without. Desparation is a horrible thing. I can remember very lean Christmas's where my kids got very little.
So let's help the good ones. If they cannot get to it maybe they will change their minds.
Lock all doors and windows - secure purchases in your trunks and out of sight - when gifts are opened tear the boxes apart throwing them away in black bags where no one can read about or see those big photos of your NEW COMPUTER OR GAME.
Y'all got security or safety ideas??????????
Tell us all - please share your thoughts

Do you know what the major crime was that y'all dealt with in PSL? Of course 90% of crime comes from drug/alcahol abuse. But was there a particular crime that stood out in your mind or touched your life personally? What happen in PSL will most likely be here soon.

Tessie,
Look at http://www.okeechobeehope.org We are one of many organizations trying to help our locals in need. I happen to be a speaker for this one. We try to build up existing groups in their abilities to help young people from becoming addicts, drunk drivers, pregnant etc.
I do not know what exact homes or places you were taking about the drug sales. Feel free to call me at the Okeechobe Police Department at 763-5521. Give me the information and I will pass it on to narcotics. OR YOU CAN CALL THEM ANONOMOUSLY AT 763-7787.

| Ok not to say exact locations however on 441 near the gas stations. Also not drug addicts but people selling drugs around 15a. you can see cars going in and out of a couple of the homes. Police have been here several times. Attachment: tessiejean.jpg (Downloaded 474 times)

I am new to the forum and kind of new to the county. I am wondering I see in Okeechobee alot of drug addicts. What are we doing to prevent this. I am sure that the Hospital in Okeechobee must be loaded with them. Even in my park that I live there is some. I am more worried not for the adults who can take responsibility for thier own actions but the children in our schools who I am sure can get this readily available to them anytime they want. I don't have any children in school but would love to know what is being done to get the druggies off the street all strung out.
Tessie....welcome to the forum...... Just a quickie for you ......Where are you seeing all these drug addicts on the streets of Okeechobee ???

Hello Bill,
I am new to the forum and kind of new to the county.
