Schools now all along the coast aren't shelling out the money just for sports. Although I think it's wrong and should be a TOP Priority along with what you go to school for in the first place. If you had the paid assistants it would do wonders for any program. The time the coach's put in with these kids, versus the stipend they are paid amounts to about , my guess a little above minimum wage.
Sounds like you don't know what you're talking about Pied Piper. There are 6 paid varsity coaches, including the head coach. There are 4 paid JV coaches for a total of 10 paid coaching positions.
This is all public record and anyone can get this info at the OCSB website with a little initiative.
Coach Branham, Coach Smith, and Coach Erwin were the only paid assistants on the whole staff. The other 6 coaches on the staff were volunteer
I think this has been said before. Chobeefan told it just like it is. Beside's the Varsity coach, there were only 2 paid assistants. Not 10, not 5, only 2. Get it dust snorter. It's obvious that you are upset over the fact that people "KNOW" and you feel like left out Lamont. GET OVER IT!

My point exactly. Everyone is just talking and speculating. The names of all those who applied were in the paper, so everyone has their money riding on someone, but unless you're the principal, you don't know who REALLY got the job. You've got a theroy and nothing more.
Pixi.........just wondering...why is that you tHINK that only the Principal is the only person who knows who the Coachis going to be.... Do you not think that anyone else is privy to that info ??I heard info from a very reliable source, one that I would "bet" on to be true............. Not a theory .... just fact.....
diva
So, who's going to be the next coach? Why is it that all you people who profess to know won't say? Is it because you're afraid that when it's announced, you would have given the wrong
Well I can't speak for others , but when something is told to me in "confidence " I honor my commitment to not "tell" till the time is right...The point I was trying to make to you in a polite way , was that people here in town do know who it is going to be and it's not a theory conspiracy...... LOL
Diva
And the point I'm trying to make is that you guys don't know who the next coach is going to be because it hasn't been announced yet. The principal isn't going to tell anyone who she selected. So everyone is going to find out for the first time on Feb. 6th.
Well, if we are going to find out on FEB 6th( your words ) ..... and seeing how today is FEB 8th...don't you think the cat is now out of the bag ???

Looks like a pretty good move to me, the coach wants somebody else besides himself that knows how to read a playbook instead of the usual one's who were drawing a play up in the dirt.

Because YOU are so full of it, and YOU say I don't have a clue. Unless you're the principal of the school (you can't be because you're not intelligent enough and you have bad grammar), then you DON'T know. Quit trying to snow people who are smarter than you.
You're the one who keeps saying that NO ONE has 10 paid coaches. We have 10 paid positions at OHS. YOU don't have a CLUE.

You're so full of it.
The committee made a recommendation to the principal. The principal then interviewed and made a decision. Since the principal said she hasn't divulged the information, you don't know anything. The committee doesn't even know who she picked, so don't go and try to convince us that you know anything.
Actually the name is already out there in certain circles. Including mine.

Well, seeing as how 33 people applied and only three of them were from Okeechobee, the odds are that the person is from out of town.
Are you saying you know who it is or are you just speculating?

They are supposed to announce the head coach this week coming up. I know where he is from but I don't know his name because it wasn't given to me. So we all should know by next week. they have had him picked for a few weeks but it has to go in front of the school board. or so I'm told.

I'm surprised you're talking about cutbacks. Aren't you the one who wants more field trips????
By the way, there are 5 varsity paid assistants and 4 JV paid assistants. These supplements are in the contract. The coach determines who they will be filled with. The person filling the position is responsible for doing the paperwork in order to get paid.
I know for a fact that only 3 Varsity coaches got paid and 0 JV coaches got paid. I would know I was one of them.

| I think they should start fresh. Clean them all out and start over. It would be better for the kids and the school. We will wait and see, bet someones cousin or buddy gets the job.

Football: Okeechobee hopes to name new head coach by Feb. 1
By Laurel Pfahler
Saturday, January 10, 2009
OKEECHOBEE — Okeechobee is midway through the interviews for the high school's head football coaching position, and school officials remain hopeful they will have a decision by the end of the month.
So far, four interviews have been completed, according to assistant principal Sean Downing, who is part of the seven-person search committee.
Among this week's interviewees were the three Okeechobee residents who applied, Okeechobee Pop Warner Football President James Shockley, long-time defensive line coach Rex Erwin and former Brahman junior varsity head coach Bob Hardman, along with out-of-towner Jeremy Beckman.
Three more interviews have been set for next week with Chris Davis, Ryan Sulkowski and Brian Ferguson. Downing said the committee expects the interview process to be complete by Jan. 16.
"We plan to have our recommendation to principal Toni Wiersma after the last interview, and then it's on her side of things," Downing said. "She has sat in on the interviews and already will have gotten a feel for who we are looking at, and hopefully we can make a decision by the end of the month."
A total of 33 applied for the job.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone. I was just joking. But I will edit it if you would like that.
