I actually thought the Fort Drum Diner had great food.  I loved their onion rings, chicken wings, burgers, and sweet tea.  There's lots of other people who ate in there everyday  who thought they had great food too!!!  Hope the new owner will have decent food, and be as nice as the people who worked in the Fort Drum Diner.

Well yesterday on our way to town to do weekly errands , we stopped in at Ft Drum Diner to see what was up....We met Pat...what a really nice lady.....Very pleasant speaking woman and YES she did afford the oringinal employess at the diner to apply to work with her..They declined..

She has plans to totally revamp the place with a new and improved menu..Lord knows we could use a decent place to eat up here...

Robbie , my son asked about a possible job with her and was told to come back later this week when she had some paper applications for him to fill out.. It sure would be nice if he could get a job there.....Right outside the gate here at Indian Hammock.....Poor kid is just really wanting to get back to work... and Lord knows MOM would love to have him get back to work also....LOL LOL

So Best of Luck to Pat on her new adventure...Will let you know how the food is after she opens the door........and if anyone has any job offers open or knows of anything let me know..Robbie is 25 and multi talented...carpentry, plumbing, CLEANING..( takes after diva)  ;), food service, etc....

I eat there several times a week.  The food and service is good.  The place is exceptionally clean and I appreciate the convenience. I don't spend anymore by eating there than I would buying groceries.

Thats both good and bad. Good for the local economy, but farm raised taste better than the ones that bottom feed in the lake.

Correct - that is what makes the economy go round and round.

But if you won't eat there or anywhere or buy from the local small businesses and risktakers the wheel will grind to a halt.  Have you any idea how much money goes throught the restaurants workers and small businesses out here (or anywhere) to fuel the people who work at WD, Publix, Banks, car dealers, the maintenance workers, who will pay electric bills, gas, taxes, water?  Who will fund our schools to pay the teachers out here, the trash collectors?   So the next time you take up space at Golden Corral and chiintz out by not spending $8 on a good meal - think about the chain - not just the food chain but the whole scheme of things - what makes our world go round and round?  cash flow -

Be kind to the local retailers, entrepreneurs, and service folks - they DO make your world keep turning.   Or everyone go home, make and eat a sandwich and see how this town will grind to a halt - and the unemployment lines will swell with your brother, your sister, your mother, father, best friends, aunts - watch your home burn down or your valuables be stolen when there isn't enough  fire/rescue personnel to do it all and keep us safe.

It is a whole chain - these businesses are not cancers - they are the sustaining life in Okeechobee... use them or lose them.

Support the locals

This not the same as the Skipjacks in Massachusetts. There are only 4  in and around Boston.

It is not a chain so to speak. This is a local name with local flair.

Not associated in anyway with the ones up north.

You should love the food at Skipjacks. They are all over New England and the food is fantastic. We were on vacation in Boston and went there. The menu was huge plus a full beer and wine selection.

I get up at 6:30 and run like crazy till 10pm to accomplish alot of work. But, my father and I have same theory about food, it is just food. Can not see value in it, at times. I do not live to eat, I eat to live. My father could be just as satisfied on peanut butter and jelly as well as steak dinner. Got my education from him.
I also see folks who claim they cannot afford their bills, or car payments at restaurants charging food on credit, I thought you ate at home, not in restaurants?
add the interest to the already high price of food.Maybe they are using there debit card , just like I do when I'm out. It looks just like a credit card Makes me wonder.

well okay - photoshooter - you have made your point.  But some of us folks who work and want to get out of the office with the comrades like to enjoy a friendly lunch.  Pack it from home - you say?  well after I get home and make supper and bathe the kiddos and do the dishes and get everyone to bed - forget it.  In the morning - forget it.  I work all day and lunch is a nice recharge of the batteries after dealing with issues all morning.

Like I already posted. I don't understand how people can pay so much $$ for lunch.
That is $42.00 a week for lunch only?
I am still for egg salad on rye, lettuce mayo, baloney on white mustard, tunas salad on whole wheat, grab a pudding, or chips, pickle. Hey that is lunch for 3 days. Cost? Minimal.
Or put whole package of wings in the oven at 400 degrees , for 45 minutes or so. take out, roll in fave hot sauce, lunch for 3 days. Cost? $7.40 add drink, ok another $1.25 for the liter.
I just can't see spending so much on food. Especially when it is so much less expensive  to fix at home.at home. oh well, to each their own.

:D  and blushing as well.  My husband and I own the Ding a Ling Deli.   I usually just lurk on these forums, but really just wanted to say thanks for such a great compliment.  I would correct the price though - as it is actually $7.00 tax included for the soup/sandwich/beverage w/refills special!  Still a great deal and you should be full!  We are delivering to businesses in the city as well now with a small minimum order.

If Bruce and I could say one thing - it would be that we sure have enjoyed meeting the great people who come through our doors and we love the friendly, smiling faces that keep us going day after day.     ~Linda

Thanks BlueStarMom.  Assumed it would have been another restaurant.

Country and western clothing?  Sounds like a competitor for Eli's.   Big ambitions in this economy against an established business.

But, she did see fit to have me dry the dishes, she washed.
I could not cook an egg at 20 years old. Learned some skills from husband's Southern mom. Bless her heart. She lives in nursing home now. But, the memories of her in the kitchen cooking HUGE amounts of food, with no counter space still run through my mind. She was amazing in the kitchen.
Bu, through sheer determination, I learned with the help of another Southern, Georgia women, who took me under her wing at 25 years old. She taught ,me the lasagne recipe, and an unbelievable squash casserole, and baked ham. God love her too. What an inspiration she was and is to me, on how to raise Godly children, treat your husband as the leader of the family, and attend a loving church.
But, I also have issues with food. I can also go without for a day  or two, and it does not bother me. Yes, the waste not , want not was alive and well in our family, and forced to clean the plate. Hey, we had a dog who would have loved the left overs. But  itwas evidently a generational thing. So, I understand where it comes from. Now
We do not through food away, cause we have a dog, and several cows who eat the scraps. And lots of birds, raccoons and the like in our yard.
Yes, can make a pecan or any other kind of pie. Actually have been asked to have a booth at the High School Rodeo State finals which will be right here in Okeechobee at the Agri-center. Great for our towns economy. Thank you Marty for bringing it here.!

Yeah I had to do the dishes to .   My mom didn't want me and I was just a kid to pick out at the local pound. You sound like a great cook and I admire that. I'm getting better but it's a struggle. I'm a professional and have clients all over the world. I have a special client in California whom is a chief and wants to fly my out to cook for me. I might just take him up on his offer. In fact he just called me. When will the pie be done again?lol I adore animals and I feel awful I haven't been able to get to Okeechobee to help out belinda with the furkids. I don't typically stop working until 5 am, till I get up it's 1ish in the afternoon and back to work by 4ish. I'm fortunate I work from home and work when I want. I like what i do and help a lot of people daily. Any how, just ring the ole dinner bell and I'll be there lol.

My favorite is a grilled cheese sandwitch (LOL) and mashed potatoes and brown gravy, coleslaw the sweet kind and juicy and a nice good salad with dark greens like romaine not iceburg lettuce. I mix the mashed potatoes with the gravy and dip it all together and eat it. Yummy it's so good. I got everyone from my massage school to try it after they were ewww at the restraunt we'd eat in daily. After they tried it they ordered it to lol.

I don't eat rice, fish, most meats, what ever collorids or collord greens(?) if I spelled that right, positively NO chicken what so ever, no tuna , I don't know what in the world mustard greens are but it doesn't sound good, sounds bitter, and I hate cooked spinach, I like raw.either, prefer to stick to fresh veggies and cheese, apple sauce and grilled cheese. Now I'm getting hungry!!, Ok I hear the captian calling lol cereal time. :D eat and back to work.

You live in the south, get with it, its collard greens, just because you cant cook doesnt mean you should not know how to spell it:P
I'll just call it " colored greens" :D:P

I have not heard back from my buddy , but I do wish the BEST OF EVERYTHING to the new owner and hope that their new adventure proves to be successful..Hopefully the food will now be able to be consumed !!! The last time I ate at the diner 3 years ago ...I lost THREE DAYS of my life....Was so sick and swore I would NEVER EVER EVER eat there again.......

My Mom had 5 boys and 1 girl. She tought us all to cook. Not when she was busy in the kitchen and we would just get in her way like on holidays, because our house was the place to come then.
