No I was not. Linda, Jerry, Dorry Liz and I all came on board in just over a few weeks time in the mid 90's.

Scotty's money was a promotion that actually worked for the customers. It was fun collecting it and spending it. I saved some as a momento. Have it with my cap and licence plate in my trunk of memories.

Ok...Off Topic...but what the hey....I will respond.
Over the years I worked at Scotty's my hands found their way from the registers up front to the contractor sales in the back sharing space with Jody and Gracie. For a time I could be found at the guard shack and then the kiosk where Nextel and ATT phones were, and then outside sales after the guys moved on to other adventures in life.
While working with the cell phones...Twice our Kiosk here is Okeechobee outsold ANY Nextel Sales location in Florida for weekly sales. Once we excelled in ATT sales and received tickets to a Marlins game (seats on the first base line) and a night and meals at a hotel in Miami. Funny when Jeff (then manager) asked me to come from the yard into the Kiosk to handle the phones I told him I had never even used a cell phone...why did he think I could sell them?
Most memorable sale? That would be the man who came in the store for project supplies...he stopped by the Kiosk to see what we had there. He had never used a cell phone either...but by this time I had acquired both knowledge of and hands on experience of the handy little gadget. I handed him my personal cell and said...call someone, anyone, anywhere. He took the phone in his hand but said he didn't know who to call. A day or so later he came back and asked if my offer was still good? He made a call to a brother he hadn't spoken to in years.... bought 2 cell phones and sent one off to his brother. He hadn't had a phone in his home for years, when he made the call he wasn't sure the number would be in service, but from that day he was going to stay in touch with his brother.
I retired following surgery in January 2002, taking some good memories with me. I worked in quite a few venues over the years, but the relationship employees had at Scotty's was almost like we were family. Everyone took interest in each other and because we did this we knew when something was wrong and reached out like family to help each other. I didn't find that in a working environment till I worked at Scotty's.

LOL...Now I know where i knew you from before !!!!Thanks for the memory jolt !!! I still have my Scottys charge card......HAHAHA
Love ya

Just my opinion... not a slam on the 5 guys junkies. Everyone has their favorites.

Same for me. What are the hours, for example? We won't be happy until we eat our way through all of the offerings in town. I looked in the phone book, but could not find a listing for a restaurant at that address. Is everyone welcome, or is it sort of a hangout for cattle people? Will old fogeys like us stick out like a sore thumb?
The hours vary - the restraunt is only open during their sales, which are on Monday and Tuesday starting at either 10 of 12 and they last until the last head is sold (no matter if it rocks into the next morning). They have summer hours where I think they only sell on Monday and are closed on Tuesdays.
You may "stick out" but everyone is welcome - they have never turned anyone down and in this economy I am sure they wouldnt mind the extra business; they used to have wonderful food - everything made from scratch. I havent ate their in the last 7 years but I am sure it is still as wonderful now as it was then.
The kitchen is small but you can even sit out in the open where they are selling and watch how it is done - which is pretty neat in its own right. I remember as a little one my brother sitting on Mr. Christmas' (the auctioneer) lap thinking he was helping - I also remember Wendell Cooper who was the nicest person in the world being there so late that they would all rub each other the wrong way. The parking sucks - but you can always find a spot, i have even seen people/trailers parking accross the road but that was years ago as it doesnt seem as busy as what it used to be when I was little but Tuesdays are still their busiest.

So, in answer to your question, yes it has been awhile since I ate there but I am sure the food is still of the same quality. They have many folks there for the cattle auctions and most if not all of these people get food and drinks there.
I don't see coolers being carried and there are no tailgate parties behind the cattle trucks... My guess is they are all eating at the top of the stairs!
and the answer is yes...the livestock market restraunt IS at the Livestock Market.

When I was a kid there was a place my folks took us. It was called Stinky's. Had a BIG sign! You drove into a gravel yard. There was a farm house off to the left of the property. Next closest was a really big barn with cows milling around between the barn and farm house and off behind the barn. To the right of the property was a fenced in pig pen. Now this might not sound like a place that would whet your appetite but right between the barn and the pig pen they had a little building where they sold the best tasting Home Made Ice cream ever to hit a human palette!
Keeping that thought in mind... (and know in advance I am not putting down the livestock market or its on site food establishment) The livestock market is just north of the RR Tracks on Hyw 98. There is a set of stairs on the front of the building. Go through the door at the top of the flight of stairs and the eating establishment in question will be on your right in that hallway. I have eaten there. The food was great!
If you go on Cattle Auction Day finding a parking space might be a challenge and the fresh farm smells will remind you...BEEF it's what's for dinner.
Bon Appetite

| I worked at the Live stock market in High School.. Loved the food there. This was 30 years ago. Have not been in there since, but who else thinks to go there for lunch?
