We will be closed on Sat the 4th and Sunday the 5th for the holiday.
After the holiday we may need to adjust our open to the public days and hours for the lack of volunteer participation with kennel cleaning. We are so sorry for the inconvenience it might cause.
It's a shame there aren't more people in Okeechobee to offer help for the friendly loving animals we save. The animals need fed, attention, a clean healthy environment, and groomed. Only a good working staff can do that and the more people we have the better it is on the volunteers.
Many of you show appreciation and give us praise and we need that and appreciate it very much, but we need people to help too.
The age requirement is 16 and up.
Oh, many people have asked us if we were connected with animal control, the answer is NO we are independent of the county shelter. We do work in harmony to save animals, but we are a no kill, non profit, operated by volunteers organization. All money for the animals comes from donations, fund raising events, and adoption fees. We pay from donations rent, electric, phone, trash pick up, insurance, medical fees, spay & neuter fees, vaccinations, testing, preventatives from illness and fleas, food, litter, kennels, repairs, things such as air conditioners, trash bags galore, brooms, mops, buckets, disinfectant, bleach, laundry detergents, paper, ink for printer, we need to buy a lawn mower, we need fill dirt to fill in holes, concrete, paint, and sealer for the kennel floor. The list goes on and on, so we do not have county or state funding to hire help.
