Cant see anything that has been done to stop the sewer backup in Amaryliss and Crosbys park. No city people have come out. All I hear is how the Mayor has asked people in city hall to help find a spanish person to run against Walker and Biggs. Why dont he try and get the bldg tore down in front of thirftway. Nothing has been done in this city since this last commission and we are tired of it. Why is it that everytime I have a question I am told to speak to the city clerk. Is she the last word. The manager is never around or in a meeting. We dont have anything left in the city so I dont understand why we still have him. Why dont you take his salary and clean the place up. Maybe let the police do their jobs so there wont be any more killings at Save a l

| One more thought. If we ever have a state of the city again, which I doubt, maybe we could at least invite the Mayors of the other cities, to see just how good they really do have it. Pathetic, embarrassing and a total sham. How did the city clerk get a job that was not put out for bid. Everyone one else does it. All you have to do people is call the other cities. Heard the hardware store is done.

| Can someone explain to me why we still have a burned out bldg. across from thriftway. I dont want to hear any double talk, that we cant find the owner, we tried to put a lien on them. The sewers in amarylis are full tonight and the mayors property in front of crosbys looks like the sears van broke down and threw out all his used washing machines. This place has no guidance and no one cares. If we cant get answers from the city, what are we to do. Bacom Pt. is mowed and weeded every week and Rardin and South Lake looks like downtown Havana. Your right about the city clerk. More excuses and no work. To busy running for the most popular in city hall. Underqualified, overpaid and a pain in the ass. You ask the IT guy something and he tries to get it for you. We should take half the salaries from everyone and give it to the rec. dept for our children. We are sitting back and hurting them and their future. Instead of a study to catch the marina at something that isnt there mayor, why dont you spend the money and put a sign to the city of Pahokee. How many times has Mr. Babb asked for this over the years. I have been running these off and sending them to the news people. Next is the governor. We better get to him while he still answers a phone call from Pahokee.

| I just read the city bugdet online. what caught my interest was the salary of the community development director: $70,000 plus a year and some mention that it is a grant origin. And supposedly a asst community director with a salary of $30,000 a year. For what???? what do we get in return? I dont care if he is in good with Babb! This is crazy. No stimulus money for the city....no grant mone to really speak of. Come on! I code enforcement is under his direction. It does not take a brain surgeon to see this city is in a shambles. I do think the governor's new task force come here and investigate this city from top to bottom. I wrote the palm beach post to have them come do a story but no response. I called city hall and the receptionist told me he doesn't really work for the city (presumerbly because of his salary comes from elsewhere). Now do you think we could use that money to clean up the city? I would do away with the community director and staff and hire local people/buisnesses to clean this city up. The hell with people who don't live here making all that money! How many of our residents make salaries like that. One last thought. I called and talked to the city clerk about minutes online. She stated that she will work on it and to talk to the IT guy. The IT guy says he is waiting on the city clerk.

| As an resident who is out of town, it would be nice to be able to go on the city web page and see the minutes. You are almost into 2010. What does it take to get something done in that city. You do not have a water dept. code enforcement is null and void. So can someone please wake up the city clerk and get the minutes on the web page. There isn't one even listed for 2009. Another wasted salary.

| I am surfing the web and found this site. Whow, you people are really what they say on the coast. Poor ignorant and stupid. If you mayor has done all those things why would you put up with that. And why would you continue to have a city manager who has no regard to your opinion. Is it true that you are scared of the white man. You have one of the best football teams in the u.s. You do not have a sign in town stating that. What a bummer for the players. You have settled for less so that is why no one cares about you out there anymore. Is city hall really in a trailer. What a first impression. Look on realtor.com. Looks like there are plenty of places for you city to have a decent place to go and deal with city issues. From what your posters say you are not long for this world anyway. Its pretty bad when your town people have to get a petition and pull the charter because the city government will not do their jobs. I think you need to move over to West Palm. We welcome all colors, lifestyles, family groups, etc. There is no stealing in front of the citizens and our street although crowded are at least clean. | You dont have to worry about the next election Wayne is in and staying in and the other two Walker and Biggs are gone. The others are following good. Wayne is doing everything anyway. We are going to try and keep the Mayor running everything. I think the city looks real good. Look at the middle school. Go back to your side of town and have barbecue and let Wayne do it.

Tomorrow at 6:30 is a workshop on the city budget. Then at 7 is the commission meeting. I urge everyone to please attend and let their concerns be known. The commissioners will respond to public out cry. We are the ones that need to be giving the orders- not Whitaker.
Our city no longer has any pride or dignity. Nor are we respected. Its our fault for letting it get to this point.
I hope Comm Walker and Vice Mayor Crawford are happy- it was their support that got Whitaker elected. They let their personal agendas ruin this city and they along with Whitaker will probably be the last elected officials in the city.

| Your right. As you can see from the other posts, the citizens are fed up with what is going on. That is why a petition with over 280 names so far is going around to push and have the charter turned in. The mayor has ruined any chance of Pahokee ever getting any help from any government agency. He continually puts his personal interests in front of the citizens and uses every opportunity to either impune the reputation of Pahokee or make a idiot out of himself. The city manager is his lackey with a high salary and does nothing but spread malicious gossip around city hall and pits one commissioner against the other. Face it , the manager and the mayor are running the city together. No Federal money was applied for and the only stimulus money is what the county might give us. We have received nothing. Rampant theft with a few employees has put a bitter taste in peoples idea of this city. The other commissioners are scared to call and have the manager dismissed, and cower down to the mayor like he still the master. It is sad that a town that once had everthing to offer has turned into a sess pool of bigotry, racism, and a total disrespect to every cititizen in this town. I remember when we had at least 8 different eating places. What we have now is a beer joint and a casino. The city hall could play out like a bad soap opera. Gossip, unfair behavior to certain employees while putting others in positions that they are not qualified for and cause more problems on a daily basis than this city can afford. Turn in the charter and lets get this city with someone who cares about the situation, the county.

| This is very sad...Pahokee was a place where I grew up in the 70's and 80's. A place where I could ride my bicycle anywhere in town and no one bothered me. I was a white girl who walked to East Lake Middle School everyday. Now it depresses me just to ride thru this town. What a sad thing the people and the city government have done to this town. It saddens me to know that nothing will change. To see all the talk about what needs to be done, but no one seems to be able to walk the walk. The city has lost all its revenue sources and is going broke. This is sad. My family was one of the pioneering families in Pahokee, they would all be ashamed by what it is now. I still have family that lives there but they are counting down the days to be able to move away. Something needs to be done and it starts by the people making a change. Clean up your property, teach your children manners and to repsect others, volunteer to help the children and show them the right path, help out your elderly neighbors. As long as things remain the same Pahokee will NEVER CHANGE...Change starts in the home, then move on to your neighborhood, and before long you will see a difference.

The state of the city was real fine. I thought everything was real good. Wayne is going to run with no one run against him. He is doing a good job. He helped this city with his connections everywhere. He has to run everything cause the commissioners want him to. They say they dont know how, unless he tells them. The city manager works hard to. We need a city hall. Wayne needs a nice office that will not get involved with people complaining about their water bills. The other people dont need one cause they dont do anything. Let Wayne do the job we wanted him to do. He works hard for the city. Finally, we got everyone under control.

FOR THE RIDE sure got it right about the "State of the City" last night. It was embarrassing, shameful, pitifull and disgusting. The Mayor's slaughtering of the English language effects me like fingernails on a chalk board !
Somebody should "LEARN" him that you do not use a publicly funded event to campaign for yourself by announcing your candidacy for Mayor in an election that is six months away.
As sorry as an event that this was, I still must say that I am more upset with the commissioners. They continue to sit on the side lines and allow this to happen to our city. I remember going to commission meetings when we had a black woman as city manager. Babb and Crawford never let up on her. It seemed she could not do anything to suit them. I thought she at least was TRYING to do her job.
Now we have a white man as city manager. In my opinion he is worthless, and arrogant. The only commissioners that speak up now are Biggs and Walker. I think that as far as Babb and Crawford are concerned -its sexist not racial. They will go after a woman but they don't have the guts to go after a man. Each and evey one of them was elected to run this city. By their silence and inaction , they have allowed Whitaker and the city manager to ruin our city's reputation and make us a laughing stock.
The mayor and city manager's latest trick is to attempt to rehab the old Pahokee High School building into the city's new city hall. The city attorney has the city on C.O.D. He has to have his check before he will attend a commission meeting. Yes we are THAT broke. Yet the mayor and the city manager think we can afford a $ 80,000 per year payment for a city hall when we really no longer need a city hall. They just need to put a desk in the corner of the Chamber of Commerce building.

The mayor took credit for straightening the city with its debt. I thought the GUA taking over the water dept and billing eleveated the debt. Guess Whitaker was responsible for that as well. You missed homemade sandwiches and cut up apples. We let the city employees stealing gas from the city go free, but we screw the tax payers out of a good meal beacause we have no money. What a riot. And again their was the city manager. The puppet and the string puller. Please let the mayors wife know that it was not a picnic. And for the love of all that good. My sources with the Sheriff's Office tell me that the City Manager is not cooperating with their investigations. Since Whitaker is the puppet master- he must be the one trying to protect the thieves.
You can not tell me that with the financial condition of the city and the very real possibility that we may have to turn in our City Charter , that the FDLE and/or the FBI is not interested in why City Hall is protecting these thieves.
Could it be they are afraid what would come out with a full investigation?.
You know city equipment pops up from time to time in the possession of Whitaker's supporters i.e. welders, weed eaters tool boxes etc.
I think there is a concerted effort to cover this up at the expense of the tax payers of this city.

The people of Jupiter and other Palm Beach Co. communities keep their property up. We in the Glades need to start by throwing trash in the trash can, not on the ground. We need help but not a handout.
Why would the taxpayers of Palm Beach County want to spend money here? The public needs to accept responsibility for who they elect to run the city because no one takes us seriously as long as we keep electing inexperienced, and ineffective people to office.

I am so glad that Pahokee still has people in it with some sense, and who are not blind, deaf and dumb.
Sasser knew what he was doing and is well connected with the rest of the county and state officials. Whitaker could not hold an intelligent conversation with anyone that can help Pahokee because he is CLUELESS!!!
How can you justify a mayor who allows thieves to just walk away?

| Yea and there happens to be four that are from the city of pahokee that are not being fired for stealing gas and lord only knows what else. But doesn't this place look great. That is where the money has gone. Mayor Whitaker approves of this apparently and the city manager, well do I need to say more. Get rid of the racist pigs and get the city ready for the holidays. This town is nothing but an ego boost for the mayor. Did he ever do anything productive in his life. Oh thats right, he built a few houses. Who cares.

| Where I do not agree with muckman's attitude, I will agree that our commissioners need to get it in gear. After hearing that the Logistics Center may not come over my way, it is woresome that the glades will die if not for this major stimulus. This is the time that we need strong leaders in the community. I think that maybe we made a mistake by voting for our new mayor. As I do not agree with Mayor Sasser's personal life, I cannot sit in judgement. He was a strong advocate for the glades, and I had been at many county meetings and he certainly had their respect. In a time like this, is when I do not think we chose the right man. A fellow parishoner in the church told several people that if Sasser remained in office that Pahokee would turn into Key West. After seeing the mismangement of this city in the last two years, and the condition of the city, Key West does not look that bad. We should not judge people on their personal lives. I sincerely hope that when it comes to election time that the community will look hard for a canidate who can represent Pahokee in a positive light and help your city come forward. In closing, I pray that you remain strong in your faith during these tough times.

| We are going to do what we want and how we want to. You need to stay out of the mayors way. He is doing a real good job. The rest are just in the way. We are working to get the marina back to. This place needed a house cleaning and get things back under control. Wayne is the man that has the business sense in city hall. The city manager is working hard for the city. You need to stay over in your neighborhood. Dont Bacom Point look good with all the center bushes.

It seems that the city employee theft ring is now up to five!!. All caught on video tape. The city manager is too afraid to make a decision and the city commission is not doing anything about it.
The city manager is an idiot. How does the city justify his $ 90,000 salary when not only is he incapable of making a decision , he doesn't even have a city to manage anymore.
We could hire the local lawn maintenance companies to mow and pick up palm fronds and they wouldn't steal from the tax payers.
Oh by the way- stop a deputy and ask he/she if the city is cooperating with them on the employee thefts- their answer will be NO !!
I do not know what the Mayor and his lackey, the city manager are covering up but the citizens need to demand an accounting from them both.
ALSO WE NEED TO ASK EACH COMMISSIONER WHY THEY ARE CONTINUING TO ALLOW THIS TO GO ON UNDER THEIR NOSES.

| I moved to Pahokee in 1983. My house was robbed twice and my car was broken into while parked at the lake. I moved to Okeechobee in 1985 and haven't taken any losses since. Okeechobee is sometimes called a hick or redneck town but it sure beats the hell out of living in Pahokee. The shame of it is, Pahokee could be the garden spot of the world if it would clean itself up and stop all its crime.

| You are right truthspeaker. This place is a dump. We have been fooled again by a commission that will not or does not want to do anything about a lazy manager who is only interested in a paycheck. The commission is to blame for not addressing this problem. Are they scared of him because of the Mayor. I would hate to think that people are actually scared of one another because of race. But then again, your right it certainly seems that way. The mayor got what he wanted from the city with getting the commission to vote on the water being run to his property. The commission is either to stupid or really don't care about this city. This blog vents our thoughts when what you should do is put them out of business. And as for you Muckman. | So now we let thieves resign after stealing from the city that the mayor says is broke. Can't keep the lights on. This must be why we haven't been able to pay extra people to help clean up this dump. If the mayor broke the charter then impeach call the governor or run against him in the election. Here is the latest brilliant move by our mayor. It seems a long time city employee, the brother of a former mayor of Pahokee and apparently good friends with the current mayor- was caught on tape stealing gas from the city. There is also people saying that gasoline was not all that he was stealing. One can only imagine what has been stolen over the years.
Not only should this person have been fired , he should have been arrested and prosecuted. But be cause he is a friend of the mayors - the mayor had the city manager allow him to resign instead . Now not only does he get away with stealing from the citizens of Pahokee , he gets to collect $10,000 in sick leave and vacation time. Money the city can ill afford to pay - nor should it.
Not only has mayor Whitaker allowed a criminal to go unpunished because he is a friend, he personally interfered in a city personnel matter that is expressly FORBIDDEN in the city charter.
I would hope that the city commission and the citizens of this community have finally had enough of the arrogant, racist behavior . The Mayor never interferes if the employee being fired is black. Oh -thats right - this thieving employee RESIGNED!

The city of Pahokee is in shambles. We don't have a middle class to speak of. No growing tax base, and a little dictator for a mayor. All you have is the marina and it would be a very serious mistake to let that poor excuse for a city manager try to ruin that. If the subject ever comes before the commission I hope that the other four people that were elected by the citizens of Pahokee remember that the mayor only has ONE vote.
Why does one person intimidate a whole city? What is wrong with you Pahokee-- you used to have some pride in your community--did everyone with any guts move out of town?
Sometimes I ride down the streets of my hometown and I remember all the thriving small businesses that lined old down town. The Prince Theater buzzing with show goers out for an evening of fun. My old schools, classmates, and teachers. Football games with a winning team that made us beam with civic pride. The neat, and well cared neighborhoods are long gone. Where has everyone gone? Why are we settling for less than we deserve? It is a sad state of affairs for a city that used to shine on the horizon of its rich fields, and sits on the shore of wondrous Lake Okeechobee to just turn off the light, and give up. Shame! Apathy will be the death of us.

| We keep bacom point cleaned up because it is the only street in Pahokee that you haven't torn up or written all over. The city can run the marina just fine. Mayor Whitaker is doing a fine job. He has even gotten the convicts working on the streets. stinkroot, that splash pad is broken cause yall broke it. Use the water at your own house for the kids The other commission needs to listen to the mayor. He is the one in charge. The city manager works hard everyday. He deserves a raise. All joking aside- What do the city employees do now except mow the grass and pick up the palm fronds on Bacom Point Rd? To me three guys could do that and we would save a lot of money. Then we could use the money we saved there and maybe get the splash pad working so the kids could have at least one thing to do after school.
No matter what is left of the city there is no way to justify a city manager's salary. Our current manager is not worth minimum wage even in the best of times. It is unfortunate that he and the mayor continue to get away with their current behavior.
Apparently the rest of the city commission are too spineless to take action. Now I understand that tomorrow night the mayor and city manager are making another play for the Marina. Seemingly they are not going to be satisfied until they ruin that as well.

| Banana Spider, Muckman is blind and ignorant and racist. Pahokee has a marina which is supposed to be a tourist attraction yet the City has no facillities for either the tourists nor residents. The City looks like a demolition site and one of those deserted old towns in some Western movie with tubleweed blowing around streets of empty shops! If that is a great job, I would hate to see them do a bad one.

You boast of how much the mayor is doing for Pahokee. Are you kidding? Are you blind? One thing for certain in Pahokee is that the only thing worth looking at is the marina, and this present mayor had nothing to do with that.
Why don't you cite one thing Mr. Whitaker has done for Pahokee besides whining? I bet you can't.

The water pipes to his property are so we can have something that looks good in this city. something yall want tear up or write all over. why dont yall move over to rpb. Be glad you got a stadium . | If Farmer One is correct with his post, then the mayor knowingly allowing water to be ran to his property which is either for sale or to be developed then he is in trouble. Even if he does not vote on the subject. The investigators, or watchdog group who have been out here on a weekly basis loved hearing this. Anyone and everyone knows with what has happened over on the coast that they watch everything. Just read todays paper. I would say the least that the Mayor should come clean and pay for his own water supply to his property. People out here are putting up with alot with the ignorance and the total lack of respect shown to the people in the community, but to put up with these kind of practices are not to be tolerated. If you would like to help with the sewage in Crosby or perhaps the drainage in Amaryllis first then we can talk. The county is all over the stuff that is going on out here, since the mayor misrepresented the city's financial postion on tape.

Why don't you go ahead and give them all the city cars as well, since you idiots are giving what assets the city has left away. Without Utilities, Fire, Police, your only assests are the properties that the city own. This full time Mayor needs to quit and go to school and learn business 101. Don't even get me going with the manager. Why would we continue to put up with this disgrace when we got rid of other managers, for less than this man. You would be better off putting the city in the hands of the city clerk or someone who knows what is going on and can fix our bad reputation.

I have to agree with bananaspider and farmer One. Here is another thing to think about. Mayor Whitaker has done nothing since being elected but consistently whine about how poor and pitiful we are. " They are gonna cut the lights off at city hall". " We can't pay attention" etc. The icing on the cake is crying in front of the Palm Beach Co. Commission begging for money then telling them " We don't want a loan!!" We want to get out of debt!!!". Under these economic times when people are glad to just have a job - not only does the city NOT lay off anyone- they all get a 5% RAISE !! The ONLY city in the state of Florida to do so. Man thats some leadership.
Now here is where we currently stand. The City of Pahokee is a laughing stock to the County and Tallahassee. We no longer have any respect and we have sent a strong message that we are too STUPID to take care of ourselves.
The entire city commission is responsible for the current condition we are in. They have allowed this to go on far too long. The City manager, in my opinion, is useless and is laughing all the way to the bank.
I honestly believe that Mayor Whitaker is trying to do the best job he can for the City. His pride, arrogance and lack of intelligence keep getting in his way. But at least he IS trying. The other four commissioners are just collecting their pay checks like the city manager.
We are taxed to maintain a city hall that no longer provides its citizens with any viable services. If you really want to get serious we no longer need a city hall. We no longer need a Mayor and commission and we certainly do not need a $90,000 per year city manager that has nothing to manage.
We as citizens have a decision to make soon.

| Surfing the net, I decided to look and see how my former home was holding up. Typical. On the verge on implosion. The spider spells it out. But you forgot one important thing that has been done since the mayor has been in office and along with his little Napoleon got something passed the city council again. The mayor will now have water pipes directly leading to the property that he is trying to develop. Talk about using office for personal gain. Wake up the rest of the city commissioners and look at what you are allowing to happen. The city is in dire straits now with the county. The mayor mis represented the citys financial position to gain access to the loan and then through it back into their face. I thank god everyday that I no longer have to live there, but regret that my tax dollars are paying their salaries. And if you have no water dept. no police, no fire and just public works and recreation, then explain to me why your city needs a city manager, who works little and gets paid an enormous amount of money. Just check the Pahokee web page and look at the budget that was posted and has not even been voted on as of yet. Looks like the rest of the commission will just let this slide as well.

The racist comments that were written on the Belle Glade newszap are ridiculous, and not worth bringing up.
Pahokee as well as Belle Glade are in trouble because of the poor policies rendered by their city commissions. The comments made by the man from West Palm Beach are true. Our area is in despicable condition. Mayor Whitaker is so arrogant he spends most of his day micro managing Pahokee- without the knowledge and experience needed to run a city. Pahokee's city manager keeps busy brown nosing Whitaker. What a joke!!! One thinks they would occassionally travel outside the manager's office/trailer and take a good look at what is happening in their city.
How many grants and stimulous monies have been applied for in Pahokee? Why did the mayor make a unilateral decision to turn down much needed county funds without the opinion, or consent of the rest of the council? Pahokee elects by who throws the most dirt, not by who will lead Pahokee into prosperity. It is too bad because all you have to do is look around to see the results of that bad decision.
What I can't figure out why the rest of the Pahokee city council allows the brow beating they take from the mayor. It is baffling to me why four adult, reasonably intelligent people allow one person to control the city's agenda, city hall, and the council vote. Maybe we should dub the mayor-- "the dictator of Pahokee." Why even have council meetings... they are a great waste of time and money.
Wake up Pahokee!!! A good house cleaning is in order and it is up to us to start the process next election day.

It does look bad when you come through our town. We don't have a city manager that cares and the mayor and the commission are just collecting their checks. We are probably going to the county, per the mayor on tv so why would anyone give a second look at Pahokee. I know we don't have any fast food places. No business wants to be here. People in Pahokee are just as discouraged as you and your wife were driving through. Please pray for leadership in our town.
