Interesting how the right wingers are worried about the Dems now. McCain is the chosen one and the chosen loser going forward. He can't win no matter what he tries to do considering he's a flip flopper and a BUSH supporter. The country over all has had it with Bush and all his failures.

George W Bush came on television today to tell everybody not to worry because his stimulus package will be pumping money into the economy. Then the dummy walks away so nobody could ask him a few questions.
Amazing he is so confident about himself being so retarded when it comes to the real economy. The man inherited capital from the previous administration and blew it all based on his basic conservative stupidity. Now we have another Bushie in the likes of John McCain trying to show how he will address the financial disaster ahead of us as time is running out for a real fix.
CREDIT DEBT has tripped the circuit breaker on this economy and along with all the foreclosures, we have a real double bubble imploding. REALITY and long time fix...

| GREAT POST..... Isn't it amazing when the truth is told and NOBODY LISTENS? BUSH said the fundamentals are good and yet the DOLT can't add 2 and 2 to get 4. Then McCain says he's not up to snuff when it comes to dealing with economics and he wants to be President. Gloom and Doom is REALITY...... Thank you George Bush for the 10 trillion dollars of more debt......

Hahaha..... Oh well.... You have to remember Voter those who think their part of this social "in class" culture of wanting to be seen, love to order their Starbucks "crap", so let them pay $5.00 or more for whatever they chose to "waste" their money on. I prefer home brewed and good to the last drop. Most people who drink that other crap are lost in a world of social status, but I wonder how many are drinking that crap now that their losing their so called wealth in todays world of foreclosures and credit crunches? Guess that HOME ATM machine went dry huh? LOL.... Love it.... Have a great day Voter.... Remember we are not friends.....

Sounds like some of your deals have gone south. Those of us with cash, low or no mortgages, and a strong work ethic are going to be just fine. But then, that has always been the case, hasn't it. I was never a fan of Starbucks, Sharper Image, or charlatan's.
We will all share the pain of diminished returns, but I have belief in the American System.

Interesting how the far right wing conservative "swift boaters of dirty tactics" have to come out of the woodwork again. Mccain might as well face one thing this go around and that is people do not want another four years of George W Bush. Failure is not an option as the saying goes and coming on EIGHT Year's of FAILURES is enough. George Bush's failed economic policies will be his final chapter as this Texas FAILURE gets ready to go back to the Lone Star State to look back on his legacy of never ending failures.
The GOP is worried and OBAMA will out debate Mccain on all the issues and put the GOP in its place as time passes. The support is growing for OBAMA and CHANGE is coming and I don't think the GOP can stop this train.... People have awakened to reality and see need for change. Its going to get nasty as far right wingers use the FOX NOISE pundits to put down OBAMA using their "swift boat" tactics and 527 crap to ruin people's reputations. FOX Noise and Karl Rove will be working overtime on this Presidential Election. LOL
Enjoy your weekend and smile..... the end is near !!! BTW - CR Voter or is it Playing the Game? Just do your cutting and pasting on this one so I can read it again..... hahaha

Letter by a Florida teacher............... A teacher speaks
This is a subject close to my heart. Do you know that we have adult students at the school where I teach who are not US citizens and who get the PELL grant, which is a federal grant (no pay back required) plus other federal grants to go to school?
One student from the Dominican Republic told me that she didn't want me to find a job for her after she finished my program, because she was getting housing from our housing department and she was getting PELL grant which paid for her total tuition and books, plus money left over.
She was looking into WAIT which gives students a CREDIT CARD for gas to come to school, and into CARIBE which is a special program (check it out - I did) for immigrants and it pays for child care and all sorts of needs while they go to school or training. The one student I just mentioned told me she was not going to be a US Citizen because she plans to return to the Dominican Republic someday and that she
loves HER country.'
I asked her if she felt guilty taking what the US is giving her and then not even bothering to become a citizen and she told me that it doesn't bother her, because that is what the money is there for!
I asked the CARIBE administration about their program and if you ARE a US Citizen, you don't qualify for their program. And all the while, I am working a full day, my son-in-law works more than 60 hours a week, and everyone in my family works and pays for our education.
Something is wrong here. I am sorry but after hearing they want to sing the National Anthem in Spanish - enough is enough.
Nowhere did they sing it in Italian, Polish, Irish (Celtic), German or any other language because of immigration. It was written by Francis Scott Key and should be sung word for word the way it was written. The news broadcasts even gave the translation -- not even close.Sorry if this offends anyone but this is MY COUNTRY
IF IT IS YOUR COUNTRY SPEAK UP -- please pass this along.
I am not against immigration -- just come through like everyone else. Get a sponsor; have a place to lay your head; have a job; pay your taxes, live by the rules AND LEARN THE LANGUAGE as all other immigrants have in the past -- and GOD BLESS AMERICA!
PART OF THE PROBLEM
Think about this: If you don't want to forward this for fear of
offending someone -- YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM!

| Interesting posts considering you still don't get it. Wholesale prices jump to the highest levels in 25 yrs, more write downs (LOSSES) coming from the major banks and still NOBODY knows who has their fingers tied to some of those creative CDO's. You just have to wonder why those in KNOW say things are going great. You need to take your heads out of the sand and wake up. The "capital" George Bush said he had was flushed down the toilet giving us never ending debt and it just keeps getting better. ONE in 534 homes in the US is being FORECLOSED. Home Equity lines almost frozen and I wonder if the NINE percent decline in home values last month must tell you what the hell is going on. Yeah listen to your CNBC Crap Pumpers telling you how the fundamentals are A-OK. Well something is wrong with the equation and LOGIC AND COMMON SENSE STILL RULES. YOU GO VOTER AND I always wondered if you and Punky were joined at the "hip".

Keep that thought Voter..... Remember the dumb money gets sucked into the markets and people like you fall for it every time. The bottom line is debt issues and no matter how you try to cover it up it just won't go away..... You see a little green today and we have a cheer for the good times again..... I would say your in LaLa land and we don't make money by being stupid..... By the way who is paying for the trillion dollars of debt these days??? Have a great day Voter.... The Big Boy Bond ratings today seem to defy your doom & gloom thinking Lulu. Maybe the markets aren't in as bad a shape as you would like us to believe. Life is not rosy and there is pain for sure, but chicken little can go away for a while now.
Angel1965 wrote:
The economy is saturated with to much debt and its sure is funny the banks aren't lending huh? Why? They can't lend because they've over done it with their greed during the housing bubble and now they are in trouble. Last word I heard was theirs going to be another 250 billion dollar write down among the greedy few who chose to use creative lending practices. We have over 9 trillion dollars of debt and George Bush thinks the economy is sound. Paulson needs to be committed for his insane comments last week. Benny needs to cut the strings to the White House and quit being a puppet man. It's going to get a lot worse and if you think not, your in total denial like the man who calls himself the decider. Way to much debt and you just can't keep printing money. Insanity and greed have ruined this country. Enjoy your day and remember its not over yet...... more bad news coming.... Oh I love this kind of writing. It is so full of joy, sentimentality and fertilizer. Just a few points in reply to this cut-and-paste letter to the editor.
1. Most Europeans that came to the U.S. returned to Europe during periods in which their native countries were relatively peaceful. They were not interested in becoming citizens, and they did not do so. Most wanted higher paying jobs to save enough to either buy/pay-off the family farm back in Europe. When they had enough money, they left. The few exceptions occurred when the country people came from had further decayed and/or been destroyed during pan-European conflicts.
2. Most non-English speaking immigrants never learned to speak English. That is why there were ethnic neighborhoods - Germantown, Hamtramck, etc... These were areas where street signs, businesses and schools were taught in the groups language. Because very few people went beyond the 6th grade, and even fewer through high school, high schools could require english - many primary schools did not.
3. In periods in which immigrants were required to learn English, our foreign policy was focused on forging alliances with England and Ireland. We intentionally had this policy because we did not want people from Eastern Europe - where German was more likely the second language - because we were trying to cozy up to England while they were gearing up for conflict with Germany. Pressure from England - at that time The World Super-Power - had more to do with our immigration policy than any philosophical system.
4. Most people came to the U.S. to "get away from something". At different periods, people escaped for different reasons. During our peak immigration years as a percentage of population, it was poverty. The Potato Famine brought more people to the U.S. than any religious movement. Just as Mexicans and Central Americans are portrayed today, Irish and Italians were equally portrayed in the 19th and early 20th centuries. They were seen as coming to take away jobs and huddling in enclaves without trying to melt-into society.
Now back to the original thread. Anyone have thoughts on David Walker's resignation and move to the Peterson Foundation?

Why do I think if I actually "snopes" this it will turn up?
And the letter is so full of romantic BS that it is not even funny. Many of the European immigrants were NOT happy to leave their old country, but were forced out due to war or famine, and many were not happy, especially older people, to live in such a strange land.
I can think of two very specific examples. My Great Grandmother moved here from the old country because her husband wanted to. There was no work, and they could find work here. However, she never spoke English, and neither did most of the people in her neighborhood. They men spoke enough at work to earn enough for food, but never stopped speaking their native tongue, and they never stopped thinking wistfully of the beauty and culture of their old country.
Heck, even my wife's grandfather had a similiar journey, and he came from England. He came back from WWI and most of his family had moved to America. Some liked parts of it, some didn't, but they never really felt at home.
Now, the kids were different. In my grandmother's case, she did grow up speaking her mother's tongue, but she also learned English, and was bi-lingual her entire life (and spoke the foreign language only with the her husband, the women on the stoop, and when she went to the ethnic grocery store. The men generally spoke better English, but that is because they were in the workforce and/or joined the military (as my grandfathers both did). My Mom recognizes a few phrases, and I think I know 1.
The process of immigration has always been about a slow assimiliation that takes generations....and the Mexicans are assimiliating at the same exact rate as every other group that came here.

ORANGE COUNTY ( CALIFORNIA ) NEWSPAPER
This is a very good letter to the editor. This woman
made some good points. For some reason, people have
difficulty structuring their arguments when arguing
against supporting the currently proposed immigration
revisions. This lady made the argument pretty simple.
NOT printed in the Orange County Paper.......
Newspapers simply won't publish letters to the editor
which they either deem politically incorrect (read
below) or which does not agree with the philosophy
they're pushing on the public. This woman wrote a
great letter to the editor that should have been
published; but, with your help it will get published
via cyberspace!
New Immigran ts
From: 'David LaBonte'
My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful letter to the
editor of the OC Register which, of course, was not
printed. So, I decided to 'print' it myself by sending
it out on the Internet. Pass it along if you feel so
inclined.
Dave LaBonte (signed)
Written in response to a series of letters to the
editor in the Orange County Register:
============ ========= ========= ========= =========

Dear Editor:
So many letter writers have based their arguments on
how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan
for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of
Liberty because the people now in question aren't
being treated the same as those who passed through
Ellis Island and other ports of entry.
Maybe we should turn to our history books and point
out to people like Mr. Lujan why today's American is
not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any
longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all
areas of Europe to come to the United States, people
had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New
York and be documented. Some would even get down on
their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a
pledge to uphold the laws and support their new
country in good and bad times. They made learning
English a primary rule in their new American
households and some even changed their names to blend
in with their new home.
They had waved good bye to their birth place to give
their children a new life and did everything in their
power to help their children assimilate into one
culture.
Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no
welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had
were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought
with them to trade for a future of prosperity. Most of
their children came of age when World War II broke
out. My father fought along side men whose parents had
come straight over from Germany, Italy,France and
Japan ... None of these 1st generation Americans ever
gave any thought about what country their parents had
come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler,
Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan. They were
defending the United States of America as one people.
When we liberated France, no one in those villages
were looking for the French-American or the German
American or the Irish American. The people of France
saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that
represented one country. Not one of those immigrant
sons would have th ought about picking up another
country's flag and waving it to represent who they
were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents
who had sacrificed so much to be here. These
immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American.
They stirred the melting pot into one red , white and
blue bowl.
And here we are in 2007 with a new kind of immigrant
who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they
want to achieve it by playing with a different set of
rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a
guarantee of being faithful to their mother country.
I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all
about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on
Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than
that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in
raising future generations to create a land that has
become a beacon for those legally searching for a
better life . I think they would be appalled that they
are being used as an example by those waving foreign
country flags.
And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue
of Liberty, it happens to mean a lot to the citizens
who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn't
start talking about dismantling the United States just
yet.

Gloom and Doom as always......

Well here is some "REALITY" for you also and it's truly amazing seeing the stock market hold while the major hedge funds play games with the market itself. People fail to realize the markets trade different than years ago and the so called smart money is cleaning up on dumb money.... Don't let a few green days on Wall Street fool you...... this is happening NOW... Read...

I don't think anybody is really disagreeing with you on the problems in the industry, and the effect they have, and will have, on our economy. I do think that the blame has to be shared, but I don't think it is an even share. When you have people in suits telling you how much of a sure bet this is, how you can't lose money, that this is a no brainer....some bite, some don't. If there were a few people, I'd say, tough....you were too stupid to know you couldn't afford it. When the numbers rise to the level that they are, however, it proves to me that it wasn't just an individual problem, but one that the industry itself had to have caused.

| This was all readily foreseeable by all except for the greedy lenders. When home mortgage loans of 110% of purchase price are made, so that the buyer doesn't need to put any cash into the transaction, and those same loans require nearly 50% of one's actual income, what else would you expect? Having none of their own funds invested, buyers are free to walk as soon as the going gets tough .... and some do just that. The entire problem is one caused and invited by the nation's mortgage lenders, but is unfortunately shared by the people allowed to get into home purchases now being evicted. The lenders will not be able to recover their loan amounts through the sales of those properties.

Well this bit of news puts it all into perspective and I can see now that the few who doubted me have all climbed back into their holes before more bad news comes out. Nobody listened and now you pay the PIPER....

The economy will be fine in the long term but what we have here is a major credit spread problem growing and tight money with real estate foreclosures growing by the numbers everyday. I find those comments by Treasury Secretary Paulson totally out of context with reality. The man made an ass of himself in China and then again last week before Congress. These people in the know are not buying food to feed their families on a limited basis. Most are from the financial world or just plain greedy lawyers with an agenda supporting party favors. Lets just say they are not living from pay day to pay day or just struggling to make ends meet. Both sides of the so called "isle" are in denial and nobody can fix this problem. You will see the major indexes correct again as they should and then just maybe we'll have a bottom in place to work from and hopefully we can adjust and move on. The worst is not over with more to come.
Credit spreads and the "game" between Treasury securities and non-Treasury securities that are identical in all respects except for quality rating. An options strategy can be used where a high premium option is sold and a low premium option is bought on the same underlying security. For instance, the difference between yields on treasuries and those on single A-rated industrial bonds. A company must offer a higher return on their bonds because their credit is worse than the government's. An example would be buying a Jan 50 call on ABC for $2, and writing a Jan 45 call on ABC for $5. The net amount received (credit) is $3. The investor will profit if the spread narrows.
The option spreads offer limited risk..... or you can go to Dover Slots and lose your money too...... Does "greed" have a play?

I would expect nothing less from Karl Rove. It was interesting to hear the Treasury Secretary or the Federal Reserve chief (I forget which one was talking) answer, in response to a question if the worst was behind us in regards to the housing issue, said that the worst had just begun. What has happened was just the first wave of refinance issues, and there probably will be more to follow, as well as related problems in other credit areas.
However, I do know one thing about the market....the public always gets in too late, and leaves too early. I believe those who say we will have a quarter or two of flat or negative growth, but I don't think we'll lapse into a deep recession or depression. There was even some positive news this week on some economic fronts; not that I am a pollyanna, but even at the worst, there are always positive signs for some people and groups. There are those companies and industries that always do better (even if it is relative) because their product or service is not as dependant on the economy.

How soon we all forget... Greed has been the common theme through all of history and this is no different... It's amazing to see Gentle Ben and the Treasury Secretary Paulson on Capital Hill trying to explain the scenarios and mumble jumble running wild with this nightmare in the financial sectors... Banks, Hedge Funds and never ending corruption has led the way for this real estate bubble bursting at the seams and its not going to be over till the fat lady sings again in late 2009...
You can't fix this mess with stimulus... INFLATION is HERE NOW... Start looking at "Stag-Flation" folks and RECESSION.... You can't build and build and have nobody buy... Commodities are out of sight... Car prices are a real joke... Food prices are going up every week and now restaurants are raising prices to off set their so called whole sale costs...
Then I hear FOX News just hired that clown Karl Rove and his first comment out of his sorry ass mouth was the media is over playing the gloom and doom on the econonmy... Give me a break.... this idiot is in LaLa land like the rest of the Bushies out there who NEVER LISTENED and now we have this NIGHTMARE on the horizon getting worse by the day.... Only in America....
Thank YOU George W Bush for all your fine leadership and LIES.... We love the DEBT YOU GAVE US and most of all our CHILDREN THANK YOU..... What a man.... We also want to thank all your other DRAFT DODGERS associated with your sorry ass......

The subprime mess is a result of the generation that wants it all now and isn't willing to work and wait for it.
The Repos and Foreclosures are proof that you just can't help some people.
Playing -- you have the results right, but the root cause has everything to do with the greed of lenders. Each fearing that another had an edge by making highly questionable loans to people without shiny work histories and credit histories, all got on the train and made those loans out of pure greed. Some are no doubt now wondering about the wisdom of following others when their training and insttutional knowledge was that these were bad ideas.

I think it is more likely that corporations were trying to squeeze a bit more profit out of the process, and slowly inched closer to loans that they normally would not have made, but had convinced themselves were "safe".
There is plenty of blame to go around on this one....the only difference between this and the dot.com crash of the 1990s is that this has, and will, affect more people.
