There is always going to be the issue of whether or not the media is following or leading the story.  In today's 24 hour obsessed media, they want to be the first with any story.

Time Magazine put Obama on their cover, and it was the second best selling issue of the year. If people didn't want it, they wouldn't buy it, but there is a obviously a market for information on Obama.

This mainstream media clip questions whether or not such coverage is fair....and unlike some "fair and balanced" sources, gives both sides of the issue.  I tend to blame it on marketing more so then anything else...If I know a starving kid cover sells 1 million copies and an Obama cover sells 2 millon copies, which do you think our capitalist society is going to run with?

I also missed the stock market one and the one about Kosovo, I thought it was bosnia. 83% is not to bad considering I only have 17 percent above me.

My surprise was learning that males and college graduates scored the best on the test along with people over 50 years of age. Makes me wonder now about KIllary running and getting all the support, must have been from women who do not know squat about things.

Another thing that scares me about the test is the fact that so many people rely on the news media to convince them on whom to vote. With the media being so biased toward Obama it is no wonder he may wind up elected.

I scored a 76.

I should have scored higher, the stock market question was a tough one considering

the current market.  On Friday the last I checked it was around 11,350.  I don't consider my answer incorrect on that one, since I have no idea when they put this

test together.

That was very interesting, thanks Fred.  However, I already knew that most

Americans do not keep up with political issues or current world events. They

know all about unimportant things like the Brangelina Twins, who's pregnant

in Hollywood, who's in rehab and who Anna Nicole Smith's baby daddy is !!!

They know who won the last Superbowl and who the points leader is in the

the race for Nextel Sprint Cup. In Delaware, if you ask them who Jack Markell is and

what position in goverment he currently holds, they wouldn't have a clue.

 By the way,

speaking of that,  I hope you Dems select him for your candidate!

The 1 I missed was on the price of the stock market....although with the recent drop, I think I might have been right.

But, yes, it is scary how poorly people did on it....and while I tend to be an optomist, this survey explains a lot, doesn't it? With people like this picking our leaders, we DESERVE who we get.

George Carlin has a bit about where he blames the politicans on US, the voter.  The applause gets a bit spotty, as the audience realize he is reaming them (and all of us) out.....the politicians don't come from a different planet, they are the best we could come up with. Sure, I think many of us could do a much better job, but we'd rather let the "political class" do the dirty work.  We have our excuses, and we love to bitch about how bad, crooked, or wasteful the city, county, state, or federal officials are, but why do most of the offices go uncontested?

I've been to more then a few city council or Levy Court meetings, and I know one thing....many of us here would have NO USE for dealing with the kind of bozos that score as badly as they do on the tests. If you had me, CR, Bixby, Terrance and HB on a board we'd have our disagreements...but I am convinced we'd be all wanting to beat the people with our executive chairs.

I remember Aaron Knopf did the worst job of hiding his impatience with stupid people. He'd be in the back of the room when City Council was meeting, and all you had to do was look at him to tell what he was thinking of some character yammering about something they had not bothered to spend 5 minutes researching....and it was worse when you stood next to him.  We had a blind candidate running for mayor, and he had absolutely NOTHING to say.  I thought Aaron was going to run down and strangle him.

Fred, you know, that is scary. Those were such basic questions and only 3% of the people got them all right. I'm sure you got them all right also, but you had an advantage over me because I'm not a card carrying member of the Democrat Party and wasn't absolutely sure in the first second who the Chairman was. The rest was no strain, and shouldn't have been to anyone who reads a newspaper or listens to the news [Fox , of course].

Put it in context and you have a bunch of uninformed people floating around out there voting for slogans and TV ads. It's not hard to understand why we are in the shape we are in.
