Arabs: Obama ‘One of Us'[size=]
While Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama “has tried to push his origins into the background, his ‘Islamic roots’ have won him a place in many Arabs’ hearts.”
That’s the observation of Iranian-born commentator Amir Taheri, whose column in Tuesday’s New York Post notes that many Arabs and other Muslims see Obama as “one of them.”
They see that Obama has Arabic-Islamic first and middle names: Barack means “blessed” and Hussein means “beautiful.” His last name is Swahili, an East African language based on Arabic, Taheri writes. His sister is named Oumah, Arabic for “the community of the faithful;” his daughter Malia bears the name of a daughter of the noted Caliph Othman; and his father and stepfather were both Muslims.
Although Taheri did not note it, Obama was raised partially as a Muslim when he lived in Indonesia with his mother and stepfather. While there, he studied at two schools and was registered at both as a Muslim student.
As such he received Islamic religious instruction, studied the Koran, and prayed with other students. He did attend mosque, albeit infrequently, with his stepfather.
Obama’s religious upbringing after Indonesia is somewhat of a mystery until his late 20s. At that point, Obama says he converted to Christianity after meeting the Rev. Jeremiah Wright in Chicago.
Still, Obama has maintained strong support from American Muslims, including Louis Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam movement. Farrakhan has endorsed Obama and has called him the “messiah.”
These factors have made Obama a big hit in the Arab world, where he has received wide praise, including:
- The Syrian regime has indicated its preference for Obama. Buthaina Shaaban, an adviser to President Bashar al-Assad, has written: “The change suggested by Obama is essential not only for the U.S. but for the entire human family.”
- Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi called Obama “a Muslim” and said: “All the people in the Arab and Muslim world and in Africa applauded this man. They welcome him and prayed for his success,” although Qaddafi also expressed criticism of Obama’s comments on the future of Jerusalem.
- Hamas political adviser Ahmed Yousef said this year: “We like Mr. Obama and we hope that he will win the election.”
- Hezbollah’s second in command, Sheik Naim al-Kassim, urged Americans to vote for Obama as a step toward peace with Islam, and pro-Hezbollah columnist Amal Saad-Ghorayeb said there is “no doubt Arabs should welcome an Obama presidency,” according to Taheri.
- In Saudi Arabia, commentator Hussein Shobokshi wrote that an Obama presidency “would mark an important moral transformation in the superpower and is a healthy indicator of the long-awaited improvement in the international arena.”
Some columnists also have noted Obama’s close ties to several Palestinian radicals, including Columbia University Prof. Rashid Khalidi — former communications director for the Palestinian Liberation Organization — and another Palestinian political activist, the late Edward Said.
The “Arab street” also favors Obama. Recent surveys found that he is the preferred candidate in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Algeria, Syria, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

When there are homeless American born people who work every day to provide for their families , and paying taxes .
Is this what Obama's means by spreading the wealth ( to his family and friends )

Probably the most fair and balanced endorsement of Obama I've seen, where they acknowledge his weaknesses, but point out his strengths. They discuss some of their worries, including a description of a "muddle-headed" Democratic Congress, which you righties would have to like.....

That person who mis-used her position in order to access the database to investigate Joe Wurzelbacher was Helen Jones-Kelly, who serves in an appointed position in a state agency which has to do with families. She stated for the record, that this sort of thing is done anytime an "ordinary individual is thrust into the spotlight." When asked to give an example, she said, as in the case of a lottery winner. The governor is now backing her up. This is pure and absolute BS in its' most unadulterated form. That we have lived in a society that, to this point, has respected the privacy and the rights of an individual to that privacy, just is more proof of the power of the omnipotent Obamessiah. This is both incredible and 2 years ago would have been incomprehensible. Jones-Kelly herself is a democrat who endorses Obama and has given the maximum campaign contribution. Let this be a lesson to all of you who believe we still "enjoy" freedom of speech. We do- so long as you agree with Obama.

Fed rate cut a DUD! Fed rescues go WILD!
by Martin D. Weiss, Ph.D.
Dear Richard
Martin and Mike
While all eyes were focused today on the Fed's rate cut, the big news was the Fed's latest cockamamie effort to save world.
Indeed, just when you thought the insanity couldn't get crazier, the Fed announced it's now going to funnel a massive $120 billion of U.S. funds into Brazil, South Korea, Singapore, and Mexico.
And that's on top of the IMF bailouts already committed to the Ukraine ($16.5 billion), Iceland ($2.1 billion), and Hungary ($25.5 billion)!
In response, some folks are cheering with glee, blindly believing that Mr. Bernanke can play Santa Claus, the Pied Piper and the Fairy Godmother all in one act.
But anyone with any experience with the real world is quickly coming to the realization that Mr. Bernanke is
* Desperate — resorting to the most radical measures of all time.
* Playing his last cards — realizing that if these last-ditch rescues don't work, it's game over.
* Taking huge risks — that his rescue-the-whole-world schemes will backfire in the form of falling confidence in the U.S. government as a whole!
Last minute plunge
Meanwhile, the much ballyhooed Fed rate cut was a dud!
After all the hope and prayer implied in yesterday's stock-market surge, today, the market literally saw a ghost: Just in the final 12 minutes of trading — from today's post-rate-cut high to the closing bell — the Dow nosedived by an alarming 372 points!
Not exactly a polite "thank you" note to Mr. Bernanke for his half-point rate cut!
Bottom line: Some investors can be fooled some of the time. But the investors that move the market are painfully aware of one simple fact:
Mr. Bernanke cannot drop interest rates below zero!
He cannot force banks to lend money!
He can't compel consumers to borrow, or make people spend.
Nor can he turn back the clock to undo decades of financial sins ... or repeal the law of gravity and stop investors from selling.

Yawn.
The last time I checked, that person's vote counts the same as everybody elses...even yours. I doubt that it is a signficant number and will have no effect on the election, but if it makes you feel good to post such things...go for it.

Can't get good white sheets any more , cause they are coming out with more rainbow colours.
Now I will have some use for the flour in the sacks, I will have to put it on my door way and windows , to get foot impressions of those will get away crimes against the country and tax payers.
Can't put my money in bank, can't hide it under a mattress can't dig a hole to hide it on my property . Crooks to left crooks to the right soon we will be better off going back to the barter system and hope we are not thrown of our land cause they want to give it to someone who does not want to work for it.
There ain't no farms for us to load up and go across country in our trucks to to find work.

How can you be sure of that Fred? You don't have to report who gave you less than $200 and we know how the Clintons raised money, why wouldn't Yomamma and his team do the same?

Obama raised 150 Million from 3 million new contributors, mostly in small $50 donations. These obviously aren't corporate donors, but individuals. A couple of things...
1. We've got more individuals contributing than ever before...and this is in a down economy. What does this mean for the future? Is it a good thing?
2. There have been a few examples of local candidates doing really dumb things..such as that clown who implied we should investigate all of Congress to see how "American" they are. I get that these are local bumpkins who found themselves on the national stage for perhaps the first time and made a fool of themselves, but what about the fact that such a performance can generate 500K worth of donations nationwide to get rid of such clowns? I suspect that this goes on both sides; for instance, the guy down in Florida who paid 120K to a woman not his wife probably has seen his opponent's campaign contributions skyrocket.
Is it a good thing? Leave aside for a moment that it is Obama, because I seriously doubt that any candidate will stick with public fiancing when they see Obama has 150 MILLION to spend in the last 2 weeks...it could just as easily have been McCain, or God forbid next time, Palin.
Is it an improvement when you get that many individual, non-tax free donations?

I wonder can they remove him ( if he makes it into office )
You linking to the Steady Drip is most appropriate. That's what you provide here; a steady drip of sewerage shamelessly disguised as political debate. You are mired in your own waste.
