Like a good person I ended up going because it is for a good cause...That being said I will never go on one again, the price for one was a major ripoff, 2nd was you didn't even get a t-shirt, 3rd was the reception was over in less than an hour, it was like they tried to get rid of you as soon as you arived. My girlfriend and I ate and then went into the museum when we came out they were packing up including the band. For the price we paid I expected a hell of allot more.
I just walked by the fridge and the "Miles for Minutes V" flyer caught my eye. I looked at the registration costs again to make sure I read it right when I placed the magnet on it about a week ago. Yes I did at $40.00 to register the day of the ride. For those of you that are not familiar with charity runs for motorcycles back in the day charity runs were to help families and people close to people that rode motorcycles. Most of the time these people were not well socially accepted and a lot of times were of limited means. Another purpose of fund raising with motorcycle rides were to have parties. The money collected went to hire bands, booze and broads. Anyway the amount you gave was all ways what you could muster up. Some threw in more some threw in less. The point is it was VOLUNTARY!! There was no sign up, there was no phone numbers required, e-mail required, insurance policy number, and name of insurance company.
Jump past how charities started using bikers goodwill to extort money from them for a soda and a hot dog; to these crazy fees that these organizations CHARGE for us to HELP them! People we are the ones giving the money. If you want to give a 10 spot or a 20 and ride you should do that. If you don't want to fill out the application tell them to go to hell. Throw your 10 or 20 or whatever you want to give on the table and walk away.... you don't want to eat the burnt hockey puck burger at the end anyway..... believe me!!! The cause is good but the exploitation of the bikers is bad. This big brother crap has got to stop!
