The Cap and Tax Fiction: Dems Must Now Offload Economics to Pass Legislation
Wall Street Journal
Since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has put cap-and-trade legislation on a forced march through the House, and the bill may soon get a vote in the Senate, Opposition scientists are ignored or shut down having incurred the wrath of Obama. It looks as if the Democrats will have to destroy the discipline of economics to get it done.
As the summer begins, White House watchers have spotted a new look by President Obama: The Evil Eye! Staffers have joked about the menacing glance, which comes when the president meets with world leaders who are not aligned with his progressive view. At least one White House reporter has been on the receiving end of the daggers during a press conference. (Drudge Report)
Recently a coalition of government watchdog organizations asked Obama to restore the jobs of some federal employees who were fired or marginalized during the Bush administration. Now it appears as if Obama is practicing the same methods by “retiring” some Inspector Generals for “getting too close to his pals and practices.”
Case in point, Gerald Walpin, the former AmeriCorps inspector general who was fired after allegations of him appearing confused at a meeting, has some pretty important friends coming to his defense. Some 145 of them, including political foes, have written Congress and the White House to refute attacks on his integrity in the controversy over why he was fired by the Obama administration. His firing came after he announced that he wasn't finished with a probe into alleged misuse of federal grants to a school founded by Kevin Johnson, an Obama supporter, mayor of Sacramento, Calif., and former NBA star.
