mr. healy, you can easily overcome the removal of the sign in your yard. get creative. have speed trap printed on a flag, and fly it. paint it on the side of your home. buy a junker and have it painted on the car and park it at the end of your driveway. bring in dirt, put a berm along the front of the property, and spell it out in gravel. grow grass on the berm, and burn speed trap into it with some round up. paint it on your roof. buy a car trailer, or rv, and paint it on there, park it in your yard. get a shed, and paint it on there. pitch a big tent in your front yard, and spell it out with duct tape on the side of it. spell it out in christmas lights.
lots of ways to buck the system. of course, this will all cost you time and money. but hell, it'll keep you busy and entertain the masses.

| I recall the "Click it or Ticket" sign I believe was attached to the school fence by the turn lane coming off the highway into town. That is a bad turn as you have the highway traffic crossing and the turning traffic into the gas station and I recall thinking that it was a bad place for someone to hang a sign . Now who put that sign up?? And why was it never considered a hazzard???. And who would have gotten seud and lost what if I had decided to read it instead of paying attention to the road and got into an accident??? The school??? The Town???? Sure seemed like a warning sign about police activity ahead so what is the difference??? And is the Healy's sign still there?? Haven't been up the highway recently to look.

To the Healys
I would go to your town council, in writing and in person and ask this question :
How come the police department , also Del- Dot have no problem with the Real Estate signs that seem to pop up every weekend ?
There are so many along the HWYs and they are there to want people to slow down and look !

| I wonder also whether your town policemen live in Felton. I live off New Burton Road in Dover and frequently see a Felton Police car going into Sherwood. If you have a guy who does not live in your town that could be part of the problem also. I have two Dover Officers in my immediate neighborhood. Last edited on Fri Jan 2nd, 2009 06:41 pm by Number1

| Mayberry days have passed, but having officers out of their cars now and then allows for more connection with people and gives a positive impression to the community. Don't get me wrong, our guys patrol in their cars for the most part, but it is nice to see them out and about, interacting one on one with residents sometimes.

Mayberry and the days of Andy Griffith walking through the town keeping the crime down is long gone for most.
But I have heard that Dover does have Foot Patrol as well as Bike patrol and it is needed for those streets closer to the station. I also heard that one of the Cheswold officers was forced to be on foot because he did not have his licenses, something to do with having to many points and couldn't get covered by the company who insures the town's police department.
The size of Felton could use both foot and bike patrol it would cut down on their expenses.
As far as the speed trap sign , why not let the Healys keep it up they are paying taxes on their property , and think about it , it could bring more revenue to the town.
All the people coming to see the sign , surly some will get a laugh and maybe buy some goods in the town or find a home they want to purchase.
Have fun with it ! But let it stay, it may save a life

| I have to disagree a little on this one. As a resident of a small town with a police dept, I think that they serve a vitale role within the community. Our officers do work on controlling speeders in our town, but they also sometimes patrol on bike, are standing outside the crosswalk at the school on occasion to greet children and families. Is this everyday? No, but now and then is better than just recognizing officers from the chest up; as visible through the window of their cars. If officers take an active role in their community, get to know the children and families, business owners ect...they are invaluable. I don't think that it is good, small town policing to simply sit on the highway and run radar. My question re: Felton officers is do they make themselves available to the residents on a personal level or only as a tax revenue resource in cars.

| They must have some redeeming qualities!?! What do other towns people think? Do these guys earn their keep in your town? Again, my perspective is purely Dover. I think our guys and gals of DPD add value to our town!!

| The reality is the good people of Felton probably have almost no need at all for police services which would otherwise be provided by the state. The town PD exists only to speed trap motorists to generate revenue to support itself. Without those revenues, the taxpayers of the town could not afford a police dept., notwithstanding that they have no need for one. With the drying up of police grants at the federal level, their speed trap efforts will be escalated in the hopes of producing sufficient revenue to stay employed.

| Good point Number 1.. A question for Felton residents, do your officers ever do foot or bike patrol within the town limits? Don't mean the highway, how about in town proper...where most of you live?

I live and work in Dover. I have not seen the sign. Nor have I ever been stopped by a Felton Policeman. Having established my objectivity on the issue, I have a question: What other public safety services do the FPD provide?
The Dover Police seem to run radar only sparingly. I have been told by friends of mine who are Dover cops that mostly it is run at the request of the community. As a city resident I am likely to run into a Dover Police officer anywhere in town in a variety of civic and public service roles.
I think that local policing is a valuable asset for any community. But is Felton fulfilling its obligation to the residents of its community?

Being a retired public safety official form another state, I have never seen such non sense in my 30 years of service. I applaud Blues for what you do, I applaud the "sign maker" for what he and his wife have done. Constantly I see the FPD sitting "lurking" in a zone that is still posted at a higher speed just "waiting" for someone to cross the imaginary line of enforcement. What concerns me most, is the LACK of safety that these officers exhibit every time they sit in a turn lane, at night and or dusk with their parking lights on.. Re: Rte 13 NB at the turn lane to the Hidden Ponds development. If a "civilian" did this they would be blocking traffic and creating a safety hazard, however, FPD can pull this off anytime they feel just.
The FPD, is not a major department, very similar to several years ago when the Frederica Police were told by the state legislature that they were forbidden to patrol Rte 1 as they, like FPD were lurking on a state highway to produce revenue. The Frederica Police became extinct like the dinosaur...
And some people wonder why certain departments get the nickname "gestapo"...
Perhaps, the people of the area can contact Representative(s) they have elected, to have these practices terminated.
Blues, as someone who has received your phone cards and most likely will again in the near future, thank you for all your help

I promise I won't take it ! But yesterday I saw three people near Garrison Lake with shopping carts picking up broken down tree branches for fire wood for their home stove. I will give them mine and get a promise they won't take your sign

Happy New Year To ALL!!
I hope that the police have taken note of what it's townspeople are really "curious" about and will take our concerns into consideration.
I will pray that God watches over each and every police officer, firefighter, emt, military personel, etc. and sends them safely home to their families each day, or at least to a safe place at the end of every shift if they can't be home.
I thank God that I live in a country where forums like this are allowed and people are able to speak out when they disagree with what the government and others in authority positions are doing.
I wish each of you a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous 009!!!
"God Bless Us One And All"

Kurt,
The Newszap policy is they will delete an account if need be as a last resort, and send a warning letter explaining why. They also graciously offer the person the right to rejoin should they agree to abide by the Terms of Service.

Lets be honest you are back. You re registered which is allowed, but your old account was deactivated hence the "guest" notation alongside your old name and posts. You would have received a warning as well telling you why your old name was booted and told you could rejoin if you abided by the TOS.

| Happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year to one and all. This is my first posting (besides me dictating a few thoughts to my wife). I am the notorious law breaker (expired tag, speed trap sign). Felton, not that it is anyone's business, but my employer let me go after twenty years of service. The reason given to Division of Unemployment was drinking on company property. I was off the clock after work and only adjacent to company property. A couple of guys having a beer after work..... FeltonMommy, that doesn't make me an alcoholic. My company had just merged with two others and downsizing was mandatory. The unemployment office investigated and is allowing me to collect unemployment. Once again, I can turn the other cheek. Felton and Feltonmommy you're in my prayers. Last edited on Wed Dec 31st, 2008 07:09 pm by kurt healy

Hey what's the difference between the press warning of DUI check points before hand and the Healys puting up the sign ?
Aren't they both for the protection of the of the public ? Both are a warning to be careful not to break or (brake the law) heh heh heh like it , are they not ?

I believe according to law, you have 500' after a posted speed limit sign to get you vehicle down to the posted speed. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

1) I don't threaten...so please get your facts straight. I warn and then I act if nothing changes, as I have done with you, sent the email to the webmaster this morning.
2) There is no problem with me posting a few pictures and links with free music downloads from my web site, I asked long ago. As a matter of fact you are the only one who has ever attempted to make it an issue, not surprising in the least!
Furthermore, I am NOT soliciting services(which would be a violation of TOS) nor have I ever solicited any services through the newszap.com forums.
I did and still do however offer my time and home to host a youth jam, and do bring that up from time to time (not a violation of the TOS it's a civic matter. I'm offering to mentor some of our youth who want to play music but have no place to do so and want to learn stage skills by playing with professional musicians). I also offer my 1 acre field to any students male or female who play soccer for any of the local schools that want to get together and have scrimmages. Feel free and make issue with that if you desire.
3) Your first amendment rights within the guidelines set forth by the owners of this forum.
IMHO, you indeed are clearly in violation with the content of your posts and I have reported your posts, and feltonmommy's to the webmaster for review. Now if you want to report me for what you perceive as my "alleged violations", feel free. This isn't Craigslist rant an raves which might serve your style better.

Looks likes The Healys turned over some one's apple cart , be careful not to mix them with oranges now cause I would hate to see a Smyrna re-make.

I can't believe how stupid we have all been! Felton is right. We should all be ashamed of ourselves.
Only a complete moron could have misteken a Ford Expedition for a Ford Explorer. We should all stop posting, because obviously we don't know our cars!
Felton, you are the one that looks like a moron. Every post you have made has been way off base. Its people like you that make people hate cops. We should be able to count on your protection, not ount on you harassing motorists on a daily basis. Why don't you get back into your "Expedition" and go harass some more people.
The fact that its an Expedition and not an Explorer proves everyones point even more, your little department has no business owning such an expensive automobile for writing tickets.

| First off no one has shout my mouth....I figured I would just let you all make fools of yourself, which I my say you guys are doing a great job of it. Also the last time I checked FPD does not own a Ford Explorer but Expedition. I also I would like to know when Feltonmommy ever insulted anyones children, the only thing she said was showing concern for the kids. Also Mrs. Healy was the first to bring FLL into this whole mess not feltonmommy, but it is funny how all her post have been edited to remove certain things... Everyone just needs to grow up and get over all this childish stuff......

I have to put in my two cents worth here! I think that the Healy's deserve a high five on their sign and since this is America, they are entitled to display their opinion as long as it is not hurting anyone else. Well, it may be hurting the FPD in a fiscal manner, but too many small towns in this state get away with funding their municipalities by writing tickets. I mean writing 500+ tickets in one month on a stretch of highway as small as Felton means they are using the highway solely for profit. They have generated their own need for more police by being a speed trap town. The anger and "rants" delivered by FM really makes me think that she protests too much.....is she involved with a cop and feels overly protective or does she just wanna be involved?
LISA AND KURT........COUNT TWO MORE SUPPORTERS FROM OUR FAMILY!!

Felton shut his yap when he was put in his place, the so called cop never did issue a response as I assume he realized what an idiot he looked like, but Feltonmommy has made continuous allegations about the Healys personal life, children, little league involvement and insinated that they have a drinking problem. From behind a screen name no less. Things that have nothing to do with this post.
And as for the porta potty, I have seen an officer with the explorer come out of the potty when the gate was open and it's not like it was hidden behind a dugout. Also saw him at it on my way to the post office. I could be wrong, maybe he had it pulled over for speeding in the 15 mph driveway.
Enjoy your vacation!! And watch out for speed traps on the way.

| It's obvious that FM has a personal vendetta against the Healy's. Talking about their children and the Felton Little Leage you should be ashamed of yourself. You need to stick to the issue at hand. The fine was way out of line. That is the only thing that Kurt is protesting. You are apparently jealous and nobody really cares what you think. You need to stay in your own closed mind world and go on vacation.

Now there would be a great question to ask of our friends at DelDOT. The correct answer is that the Felton (cough) police have not complained about them yet.

1) "My daughter came home from school upset because a group of boys was teasing the Healy's daughter on the bus because of the sign. Did it ever occur to you that their daughter wouldn't want to tell her parents in an effort to protect her parents feelings?"
Did it ever occur to you that your daughter made the story up because you are projecting your feelings in front of her ?
2) "I have still yet to see Mrs. Healy insist on knowing the names of the people who agree with her, only the ones that disagree. If she isn't looking to be vindictive, what on God's green Earth would she need to know my name for?"
Those of us who agree with the Healey's have no problem revealing our real names without being asked to. I even took it upon myself to pick up the phone this morning and called Kurt, I found him to be very engaging and intelligent. He wasn't looking for special treatment because of his community involvement, but the other side of the coin is you don't give someone the royal shaft who does take such an active role in the community. I think we all know if it had been a fellow officer or one of their family members pulled over for the same offense they would have received a warning and not a ticket.
3) "Bluesman, I never said that you did nothing. I said that you should be more proactive against the things you disagree with."
You insinuated it not once but on several occasions. I think what I posted shows I am very proactive on many issues and not just online in this forum. When I fault something I do in fact offer viable solutions and do take part in real life resolutions.
4) "With your resume you should consider running for political office."
What do you call the Board of Selectman or school boards.
As far as any other political office no thanks, the good ol' boy mentality is to restrictive to implement change. I was appointed to the Governor's council for Performing Arts and Theater, in 2006, that's as close as I want to come.
5) "As for there only being 3 people speaking out against the Healy's on here. There aren't all the many speaking for them aside from themselves, family, 1 friend, BG and two people who speak out against anything."
More insinuations and wrong assumptions on your part.
6) "To address Mrs. Hacker, no, I have never broken a law."
You might want to rethink that answer you have in fact broken several TOS rules "laws" that you agreed to when you joined this forum.
7) "I will be gone for the next few days for vacation. Please do not take my lack of response to rants as me being bullied by anyone."
The classic role reversal: the victimizer now trying to portray themselves as a possible victim.

Now I have a couple of questions for you:
1) Why is it you as a long time resident of your community and Delaware now only started and continue to post about this one issue ?
Certainly there are many far more important issues Felton residents are facing than someone exercising their First Amendment rights.
2) What is your relationship with Law enforcement?
The reason I ask is in checking your profile and found this interesting: homepage: http://www.nleomf.com/
Occupation: Serving my county to the best of my ability
If your 6 posts are an example of your service to your country and fellow community members, I certainly wouldn't welcome your help.

Ok, can someone please explain to me why there are still KAREN HARTLEY NAGEL election signs up all over our roadways LONG after election time, yet DelDot is concerned with Mr. and Mrs. Healy? I really wish the State News would cover that story. Why is she allowed to do this? It was bad enough looking at all the elections signs during the election... now I have to continue to look?

Coop,
Nah not really.....I'm like 1,000's of other Americans like you and your husband who quietly give to their community without any expectations, because we do love life, family and community. Kurt and I had a great conversation on the phone earlier and I look forward to meeting both of you.
BTW: I have tried numerous times over since moving here to get a similar youth jam project started even trying to garner interest through the NewsZap forum only to get responses that I'm a weirdo a pedophile and a few other vile terms I won't even post.
