Mr Fisher still wants to run this city. Would this be in his budget? Would the tax payers be paying for this? If he installs one in their offices, he would have to install them in everyones office. Would he raise taxes to do this? Would he cut services? Would he even show up for meetings?

How about a horse Ride Share program
Someone could help with the care in exchange to learn and ride
P and M arena has a neat thing going for the Rough Riders..
There was a nice article in The Independent this week about SHA members installing more hitching posts around town

A hitching post area .... how about the old dog track (next to Walmart ) it's not being used for anything. All the races are televised inside and the actual track area sits unused year after year. Or possibly the site where th Grand Motel was ; still don't understand why it was torn down but the land there is sitting vacant.
And that lot would be great for both a bus depot and a hitching post.

I would like to make a comment regarding Mr Dison’s and the SHA attempts to get hitching rails at places like Walmart, Frys, etc. I am not a horseman so really don’t have a dog in this fight so to speak, but I think we need to be careful about placing “horse parking places” so to speak in such congested areas as major shopping centers. I can see such hitching posts at some locations where a business is willing to allow them, and I am thinking of perhaps businesses such as Dirt Water Springs, AJ’s, and I’m sure there are many others people can think of. My concern is in areas of heavy congestion such as large shopping centers with the constant coming and going of fairly large numbers of vehicles, not just cars but things like trucks making deliveries could be dangerous not only to shoppers and such but to the animals themselves. I’m with MrsK on this. Way too many dangerous, inattentive and may I say stupid drivers around. This is not specific to AJ but just a general observation.
The subject of a bus system to connect to the current Valley Metro/Light Rail system is something I think could be explored.
That is our concern, while we can't control the traffic, we would require that an enclosed hitching post area be installed in case of a horse getting loose while the rider was in shopping. We are in discussions regarding cost issues.

| I'm all for that...trouble is, with the way people drive around here, I would be hesitant to ride a horse in those areas.

Superstition Horsemen's Association is currently in communication with Wal Mart and Fry's Shopping center, about placing hitching rails on those properties for use by the horse community. SHA has already placed many hitching rails at various locations, including 2 at the library and city facility.

| I agree with ajbookchin, we need bus service out here. In other states that have a high population of elderly ( like Florida ) most areas like A.J. already have a public bus service. This helps to keep those whom are too old to drive anymore off the roads but still able to do thier shopping , doctor appts. etc. It makes it safer and more convenient for everyone.

Very interesting ..this would be so neat to have in our community.
I would also love to see more people able to ride into town for shopping etc. and have a place to "park" their horse..used to be common to see riders going down Apache Trail

I would actually like this very much. I could also ride a horse to work, since it's only 3 miles from home, if there was some shade and water for it.
I heard the city would not allow the owner of our building to install covered parking, so I doubt they would allow accomodations for the stabling of horses.

Drifting off to sleep last night...
I argue that Apache Junction should coordinate with Pinal County (providing a majority of funding) and Valley Metro to operate a limited number of express buses between AJ and the Phoenix CBD... the express buses should serve Park-and-Ride lots at the city complex and US60/Idaho Road... as I was drifting to sleep, it occurred to me that there is a stable at the city complex... envision residents riding a horse from home to the city complex where they could stable their horse before catching an express bus to Phoenix...
I wonder how many communities in America (let alone the valley) could advertise a Stable-and-Ride service???
(I realize that this may not be reasonable, at the very least as the stable at the city complex is presently unattended... but I think its interesting and probably at least a little unusual.)
