Mr Fisher, guess you got me! Give me a little time, busy day today, and I will print or put the link in for everything here for you to dispute, as always. Maybe you should look up the words "completely"and "false".

Pinal County Taxes are higher, so the total tax rate for AJ is quite a bit higher than Mesa.
Again, I don't care about any other city, it all boils down:
If you spend more than you earn, you're in trouble.
Sales Taxes, Property Taxes, and yet some oppose the sunset.

Elliot,
Your effrontery is staggering and second only to your duplicity. Since you appear to dwell within a glass house, perhaps it would be prudent to avoid casting stones.

We get for our taxes no transportation (like a bus service), no citywide trash pick up nor pickup for recyclables, a City Council with no term limits, who play god and use the City Attorney's office as a political weapon. We pay for the electronic propaganda broadcasts for this City Council with no time allowed for rebuttal via Call to the Public and it's only getting worse. We have horrible streets, a pathetic, disorganized and wasteful business development structure and I could be going on...
Let's not forget the City Chamber of Commerce that gets some of its funding from the City Council and we have nothing but closed businesses up and down our main business thorough fare.
That's yours and my money at work!
Lets see, a motorcycle rider was Lucky there were city services when you ran into him and fled the scene. It took city services to chase you down after you ran into and fled the scene of said motorcycle rider. The tax paying citizens are lucky to have the services of the city attorney, to defend the city against the lawsuits you so generously throw out for whatever your reason is that day. I doubt if your money is at work, considering you have collected how much of the tax payers money over frivolous lawsuits. $32,000.00 sound close Mr Fisher? Did you use any of our money to pay those fines yet? And I could be going on..............

Just like General Motors is paying for "Legacy" costs - so is Apache Junction!
I am the last person that would suggest cuting spending is the solution to Apache Junction's stagnation.
Apache Junction has a problem with change. If the City Council really wanted to improve the whole climate here it would require changes that would be a threat to themselves politically, therefore it will never happen!

| I think if you look at this same list one year from now many municipalities will be higher. I know Gilbert is going up for sure. I don't think ours will be higher...the same maybe.

EF, if you want something to investigate, see what the receipts were for the last rodeo. Did the city lose money on it?
Did someone pave the rodeo grounds? I know money is made at the rodeo grounds, by unfortunately, unless some is donated to the city, it never sees any of it. You are talking about the Apache Junction Rodeo grounds, correct.

Areas that don't bring in money to the city. non-essential spending.
What, you've never formulated your own budget before? Most high-schools teach this stuff in 9th grade.
If the money IN is less than the money OUT= Bad.
If the money IN is more than the money OUT= Good.
If the State cuts a portion of their money IN, raising taxes on the City is a horrible idea.
Why? Because Mesa is a couple miles away.

Yes, less revenue will definitely make the deficit smaller.
Cut the taxes to get them closer to that within Mesa.
If you lost your job, would you a) cut your spending or b) demand more money?
Allowing the people of AJ to keep more of their money and cutting spending where ever possible is the proper way to soldier on through a recession.

| The Deficit was created by Doug Coleman and his little pawns. Now it is time to live up to promise of letting the Capital Facilities Tax sunset.

You still don't get it. It hasn't been enacted yet. Until it is voted on and passed, there is no budget.
Based on your history, we can only guess that no matter what is in this budget, you won't like it.

Once a budget has been adopted by the Council, it becomes public information. Why would you expect it any sooner?
Does GM or Chrysler make public its blueprints or submit to Govt. tests before a product is ready?
If the Council enacts a budget you disagree with, write a letter to them or the papers or both. If you don't get relief, take it to the polls.

I agree 100% with transparency. I have talked with city staff on other items that would be beneficial to have on the website.
I don't think it's a matter of hiding anything but more an issue of getting up to speed with whats on the city website. I was told the city is working on updating it.

Thanks for at least a answer. Why can't the budget be posted ? Here or perhaps City web site ?

Why should I need to ask for such important information? A transparent government would make it public!!!!

Elliott, I am not an official spokesman for the city just one of 7 elected to represent. I'll try to answer your question but I thought you were present when Mr. Hoffman went into great detail explaning that as of now there is a "balanced" budget that will be submitted for council approval... Pretty self explanatory.
However, there is still the outside factor of the State possibly withholding or taking money from us. If this happens then major cuts will have to be made.

As of 06/18 Elliott still has not received the exact figure of what Apache Junction's current Deficit is.
It is funny how the AJ News seems to have every litle bit of information long before every other news outlet in the valley. However, when it comes to the Budget, they don't have it!
Here's some attention seeking for you. I hereby challenge the AJ City Council to print the full budget in both city newspapers and on this website for all to see!
You bet, I seek attention - for the budget - for nobody else seems to want to know the truth.
All the City of AJ seems to be able to do is to blame the State Legislature for their current situation - whatever it is... Never mind that they were warned by myself and many others that their overbudgeted Projects would one day be their undoing. Has this day come?
Let's not forget, gas prices are nearing $3 per gallon and Apache Junction still has no plan to reduce taxation at the pump or invest in alternate transportation, like a bus.
If it's only negative attention that will make people really start to think about what is going on in Apache Junction, then so be it.
Too bad, too sad.
