I too knew several of the AJHS athletes 35 years ago.  That would be 1974, which would have been my sophomore/junior year at AJHS.

Back to the subject about perverts on campus, though - we did have one or two male teachers who made strange comments to some girls IN FRONT OF EVERYONE and no one did anything about it.

On the other hand, there were rumors about a female teacher making passes at girls, and she left real suddenly.  I don't know if she was fired or if she quit - it could be something as simple as getting a better job somewhere else.  In those days the district was pretty poor and it was tough to make a living teaching here.  I have no first-hand knowledge of the situation.

So it seems like a double standard was in effect; male teachers got away with harrassing female students openly, but a female teacher who was rumored to have made a pass at a girl went *poof*.

It was creepy, and why no one called these guys out on it, I don't know.  Back then no one listened to teenaged girls when they complained about being harrassed by creepy adult men.

I could write a book...but if I did I would have to leave town.

I want to know when they are going to start spot checking high school athletes for drugs? They ever start, boy will people be shocked by the results! I use to hang out with several different high school football players from AJ high when I was a kid. 3 out of 5 where either using cocaine or meth. One was even using metabolic steroids and his coach knew about it to. Jocks get away with murder so does many of the coach's. This garbage has been going on for far to long!

Sexual Misconduct with a Student Results in Sentence of 20 Years Probation

On March 26, 2009, the Apache Junction Police Department responded to Apache Junction High School when the School Administration called to report the alleged misconduct of a school employee.  When the responding officer was briefed, it was alleged that a previously employed sports coach had had inappropriate sexual contact(s) with a student.

The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) was given the preliminary report and began the investigation.  On Saturday March 29th, Raenna Jewell, 25, a resident of Gilbert, was charged with two (2) counts of Sexual Misconduct with a Minor.

On June 23, 2009 Jewell pled guilty and was found guilty of Sexual Conduct with a Minor and Furnishing Harmful Materials to a Minor, both felonies.  Judge Boyd T. Johnson sentenced Jewell to twenty (20) years of supervised probation and 180 days in jail.  Further admonishments and stipulations are that she will not work at any school or in any activities with children under the age of 14.  Jewell also will be required to register as a Sexual Offender.

Prosecutor for the Pinal County Attorney Office was Deputy County Attorney Jason Holmberg.  Holmberg worked extensively with the Apache Junction Police Department CID and is credited for the successful culmination.
