| Why exactly do kids need cell phones in school? Sounds like high tech note passing and cheating would be easy with one. I didnt have a cell phone when I was in school. If you needed to make a call, there was a phone in the lobby that you put a quarter in to make a call (its probably in a museum now). And if you got caught with a pager you'd get a trip downtown in a squad car.

| Cell phones are nothing but trouble for kids. One example is, if your kid has a cell phone and you punish them-well one call to child protective service's can distroy your whole familys life. Even if nothing wrong was done, your life may be over. Without a kid having a phone, they will cool down after a while of punshment and it will blow over.

We went to the Delaware State Fair,,again this year, and had a great time! Only one drawback. We had our 2 young grandkids with us,and we were told the Agricultural Building had some good games and exhibits for kids. When we went in, there was a teenager in charge of each booth. Every single one of the teens was busy texting, on their cells, except for ONE girl. I think she was the one in charge of the dairy booth. We would stop in front of each booth, and the teen would not even acknowledge us, never even looking up. We had to ask about the game, then felt as if we were interrupting their social life. This was late Saturday afternoon,we didn't see any advisors around. They definately should ban cells from the exhibit barns next year.

| Indian River is just following suit as almost all the other school districts in Delaware. Students brought this upon themselves.

My name is Maryellen, and currently a senior at Indian River High School. I have heard from the news and fellow peers that there is a new cell phone policy? The old policy at my current high school was that no cell phones were allowed during school hours. If there was then severe consequences would accure. Such as, it would be taken away and the parents/guardians would have to come and pick up the celluar device during the hours that the assisstant princpal or the principal would be at the school. If they were not there, they could not recieve the phone. If it accord again, then the student would have to serve a detention and would not get it back ,if or until they served that detention. After they have served it, then their parent/guardian could pick it up. Just keep in mind while they have the celluar device, the parents/guardians are still paying for that cell phone plan. If parents come before school is over or the their child has not yet served that detention, they would not give them that cell phone.
The new cell phone policy in my opinion is just rediculous. From what I have heard we are not allowed to have them even after school hours! At my high school, we have alot of different sports and some cannot practice everyday so they cancel. Right after school, some students cannot drive so they rely on their parent/guardians or fellow peers to take them home or pick them up from school. After school hours, they cannot call or text their parents or fellow students to ask for a ride. Another situation that comes to mind, I have nine siblings, what if something happens to them and my mother or step father needs me for something and can not get ahold of me because I have my celluar device turned off because I have to stay after school or etc. Because of that school board making this policy, something serious could happen to anyone of my family members and it would be there fault if they can not get ahold of me. Not all parents know the schools number. Their first instinct in a serious situation is to call their child and let them know, not flip through some old phone book looking for a number in a time of crisis. I completely agree with the old cell phone policy. Students should be more worried about their school work then what happened to Johnny and his girlfriend Sally Sue. My plan for this situation is to go to the head of my school board and discuss this situation further with them. I have already had a discuss with them about the schools text books. If they can underdstand where I am coming from about that and listen to my opinion about the text books, I know they will let me voice my opinion about the new cell phone policy. With all due respect I would really love to hear what other people think about this situation.
