"Where in the Hell did America's fighting spirit go"? What does that have to do with a business reality? Earth to Mama, whoever owns the land are free to build whatever they want on THEIR land as long as it complies with our building codes. Last time I checked, this is America, you know the one we have fought the hard fight for our freedoms? Who are you or anyone else to try to tell any corporation what they can and cannot build and where unless it is an illegal enterprise, and it's not, just because you don't like them? It's a useless waste of energies.
The point you missed is it would not be the hill for me to die on because you can't win it. There is no fight to fight. That my friend is reality. If it makes you feel good to RAW RAW RAW, then knock yourself out. But their individual freedoms dictate this one and bigger people than you have tried to stop them in the past and it didn't work for them either.
So call City Hall day and night if that is what you are subscribing to but they will not be able to do one thing to change the situation anymore than you can. And as a sidebar, apparently not everyone agrees with you or else you wouldn't have to keep coming on here with the "fight" information.

Personally I'm glad to see the people out there trying to stop it. It shows there's still some American grit -- people are tired of getting stomped on and lied to and at least they're letting their voices be heard. I used to think it was the Dems who liked to be victims. Now I'm beginning to think perhaps it's the Reps, like you raz, who sit around and say it's going to happen no matter what, but then of course, you would be pro-Walmart. Where in the hell did the fighting American spirit go? Right now, I think it's with the involved RAW group! GO GROUP !

Then what is the international information number?
Nothing wrong with another Wal Mart coming to town. They aren't stupid people, if the demographics and rooftops are here, they will come. With the economic slow down, some people may be really happy to hear there will be more employment coming to Surprise no matter what it is and for those who depend upon the low prices in order to get through the week, they too will be happy. Don't like Wal Mart, then don't shop there.
The bottom line is you can spend as much time fighting this, you can even march up and down the 303 with signs in the 100 degree weather, but they will still come. We can't stop it, the council can't stop it nor should they try. It's called a free enterprise system, in a few years you will forget that it's there because by the time that area develops it will be just another store.

Dear ________
Here is a great letter from a fellow RAW Member:
Hello,
My name is _____ and I am GREATLY apposed to yet another Wal-Mart in
this town!
Please let me know how I can offer my help and support. I work from
home and
have time to devote to this. I called the Mayor's office today and
voiced my
concern. However, the administrative assistant that answered the phone
had no
idea how I got the number and said I was the first call. She told me
that she
would start a 'phone log' of all the future calls that would come in
opposing
this issue so, we need to get the word and number out to the public.
The number
I dialed is: 623-222-1300
***********************************
Everyone should do what _____ is suggesting!
Thanks ______!
Keep it going! |

Yeah, I don't think they are going to make it, either.
With all the trash I've recently seen moving into this area (couldn't be because they are selling 2200 sq. ft. homes in the $165k range & the "trash" are the only ones getting approved for loans..??..) I'm sure we'll be seeing a Marley Park Food City in our future.

| Same with toilet tissue. Used to be 500 sheets to a roll now anywhere from 225 to 250. And of course the price has done nothing but go up. We only buy these types of items at costco because you get twice as much for about the same price (and often less).

| Since the food business has come up again. I would like everyone to know that I recently purchased Breyer's Ice Cream. Which I thought was 1.75 quarts, they are now 1.5 quarts. I haven't looked to see if the other manufactures have changed also. It use to be a 1/2 gallon then 1.75 quarts, now 1.5 quarts. Same geat taste and same great over priced.

| Speaking of basha's, I remember a few months ago I went there when they advertised TGI premixed margrita as on sale but when I got there I was informed they were all out and usually only kept 3 or 4 bottles in inventory at any given time. I was told if I wanted to prepay they would order the 3 bottles and I would get them at the sale price. I'm sure you can imagine my response.

Anyone been to the new Walmart Grocery store? It doesn't carry all of the same things as the Supercenter. It's very clean and nice compared to the Supercenter, but I went for three items that I normally buy at Walmart and was told they didn't carry two of them. Specifically, the 24 pack of Miller lite beer in the long necks and Lipton Green tea in the big bottles. They carry Miller beer in smaller boxes and they only carry the small, one serving sizes of green tea in the little bottles. I walked out and went back to the big Walmart. The large size of those two items saves me enough to make the trip down Grand.
Off topic, but I also went to the new Basha's a few times and there were three times as many employees as customers every time. I don't see how that store will survive.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get the web version of a City Council meeting online at the City's website? The latest being shown is the April 10th version. I'd like to review what went on with the Walmart group at the April 24th meeting.

U bet!
A nice, big empty building next to the ridiculously large/out of place apartment complex being built at the 303 and Peoria Ave. I'm sure this apartment complex will be occupied by some of the unsavory characters I've seen roaming around the Surprise Farms area recently.

Mom of 4 kiddos:
So you're a little broke? Too bad, so sad, are you on the chopping block to lose your home too? I tried to be nice, but now I see how morally LOW your are. You are probably a Walmart working, trying to make ends meet, having 4 jobs and hating on the rich people. Well, bummer for you. MrsF - does that stand for Frowning? If I remember right, you are a little teacher that cries all the time too.. boo hoo....if you don't like where you work then find a new job. Stop taking it out on a public forum. You want to meet me and discuss this, PM me back... you little ho.
First of all, mom, I'm nowhere near a little broke, nowhere near losing my house, doing just fine financially, but thanks for your concern!
I have NEVER worked at Walmart. I'm just not one to lump everyone into the category of drug abusers. I refuse to be judgmental like you.
I don't hate on the rich people. I was raised in a VERY nice part of the valley and had the best of everything growing up. I am living a very comfortable life now, even as a teacher.
I don't cry about anything even related to my job. I love my job. I don't like beaurocracy, but who does? I love what I do, I love my kids.
Why would I want to meet you? You are a judgmental ignorant bitter lady who can't hold a candle to me. Your calling me a "ho" just proves that you are either ignorant, young and dumb, or old and trying to act young. Respectable mothers of 4 kids don't use that sort of talk. I refuse to go down the path of name calling. You were acting like a snob and I called you on it. Truth hurts, doesn't it?

It was either a Wal Mart Greeter or The President of the United States.
So I picked the Wal Mart Greeter because the commute to Washington DC everyday would kill me.

I know where I live there are million dollar homes not saying mine is any where near that. But I have never seen a neighborhood of million dollar homes in Surprise. Or do you live in the desert on a acre plus piece of property with a custom spec house?

Little MrsF... there are upscale neighborhoods in Surprise, ummm I would consider $900,000 for a house an upscale neighborhood. Would you like to drive through the community?
Sweetie, you and your big upscale house is a minority in this town. Look around you. You are surrounded by regular folks trying to make ends meet.
You are completely "ignorant" with your statements as well. Walmarts bring crime into neighborhoods.. why don't you do some investigation on that? Start at 83rd and Union Hills... then start your "snobby" comments.. This forum is a joke. I have a right to my opinons and all you do is sling names. I know there are plenty of crackheads that work at the stores... but you - who doesn't like to shop there - know more.
Maybe there are some crackheads that work there, but there are crackheads everywhere. To try to lump all of them into that category is unfair.
Now, if you can't reply to opinions without ridiculing someone, then you my dear, are the fool. Was I calling you a crackhead? I was making a general opinion and I am sorry if I paid more for my house than you....
There you go again, throwing your money around. Honey, I'm not impressed. I didn't ridicule you at all. You call people crackheads and that's just you stating your opinion. I call you a snob and suddenly I'm so horrible? I'm just stating my opinion, Love, just like you. I don't care if you paid more than I did for your home. Apparently, you are sorry, though. I like my home and I'm living within my means.
I know you don't appreciate me calling you a snob, per your PM, but I don't care. I will call a spade a spade. Walmarts don't need to saturate the market, I will agree with you on that one, but to put down people who work there or to say that this town isn't exactly a "Walmart community" is just plain foolish. Surprise is EXACTLY who shops there.

I wouldn't protest Target. I view Target as a tremendous upgrade in comparison to Walmart. Each and every Target I've ever been inside of from this side of the country to the other was never in such disaray as the Walmarts. I don't think Walmart knows how to do it any other way and I'll work to stop it until it can't be stopped anymore. I just hope the group is growing and growing:

| Yes, welfaremomof4, I' sure you do a great job with your kids - teaching them that Walmart employees are "crackheads" - teaching them intorerance of others - teaching them that only their (your) opinion should be considered. Skip the college fund and start a therapy fund - they're gonna need it worse.

I don't know; I've heard it's still going to go before the Council for approval, thus the urgency of this group. Guess I'd better ask again to make sure. I'd NEVER heard anything about a Walmartel until that Republic article a few weeks back and in all the meetings I attended with Prasada, they never mentioned this name.

Taero you sound like you've been in the valley for many years. I remember that mall and it was a nice mall about 20 years ago with some nice stores and movie theaters. I think it was called West Valley Mall. It really took a dive and then totally turned around with the Wal Mart.
Was it Mesa or Chandler that was trying to prevent Wal Mart from going in about ten years ago? They did not succeed.

Frustrated claims to have been a Customer Svs Mgr for Wally? Gee, ya suppose maybe her people skills were somewhat lacking causing her to be fired: "OK, which one of you crackheads in line is next, and you ya better damn better have your receipt, ya hear?"

Actually, he is happy to put anyone in jail, bad person or not..hence the lawsuits he has lost....and about Walmart...ya know, ppl, there is a differnce between the company and the hourly employees who are forced to work there...yeh, I did say forced because not too many moms dream of having their kids grow up so they can be a Wally-employee...so how about a little compassion for those who work there for little pay, for few benefits and get characterized as 'crackheads' by moronic bigots on this forum.

You are so right there.
And just think back in the early 80's, Japan was voted the hardest, longest hours working culture in the world. Now the U.S.A. is the number 1 country !
Along with that, there is the medical damages which is literally killing us. You don't have time to go to the doctors for check-ups, and have simple tests run.
Which some of these tests and exams could prevent future problems down the road. But there is no time in the day, we can't afford to miss work.
We seem to be a throw away society, just like the Bic pens of the 60's. I guess when you have a rather large population it is easy to have throw away people.
And for companies not offering benefits for their workers is really sad, but you can bet that management has the best benefits money can buy.

I wouldn't jump off any bridges just yet, things aren't always as dire as what they appear to be on the surface. We've had rough spots before, the problem with us is we've gotten used to having it so good that when a bump comes along, everyone panics. We will be just fine.

Seems to me there's going to be a lot more Have Nots in the next year or two.

And they are the "Haves" and the "Have Not's".
How about they are the "have's" and WE are the "have not's?"
