BB35 Why do always assume that everyone is going to the poor house. Many of us are young retirees who have planned for our retirement years and made smart decisions with our money. What makes you think we are so stupid that we can't handle a recession? We've gone through a recession before and yet here we are in our 50's and early 60's enjoying our retirement and living the good life. Speak for yourself.

It just happens that Wally is the first business in the Prasada development. Go to their website and read what other plans they have for the City of Surprise and our surrounding community.
Relax my friends!
Milo, I was told that if Walmart puts in a store and it doesn't do well, it tells the vendors to pull out their merchandise and it closes. The "new" store at Dysart and Waddell never appears to be doing much business when I pass by it. I've had many other people tell me it's pretty dead there. A soon to be closed and vacant eyesore?
On the other hand, the Bell/Grand store is always busy. Everyone still goes there. Why put another store in this more southern direction when it is doubtful it will survive? The Bell/Grand store has lots of business from SCG (just a hop down Grand) and SCW (just a hop across Grand) and from probably NE sections of Surprise and NW ElMirage, plus I'm sure other areas.
The main point is: There is a new Walmart 3 miles away NOT thriving. Why do it again?

| Funny how no one ever wants a walmart but they don't seem to have trouble finding it once it's opened. Could be worse, maybe another tire or lube shop?

I agree with you completely. I did send them an email for an update and we'll see what kind of response is returned.
With the building crunch so slow, you really can't blame them for putting things on hold. I do know that the land has been purchased.
Another question I still have is why the Sam's Club is taking so long. The Surprise Commercial Project website still lists it as building plans submitted. Is the holdup with Sam's or the City of Surprise?

Milo, that sounds great, but who knows how long ago it was written? The web is littered with pages that were last updated months or even years ago. If someone with Westcor was handing out brochures with that information this week, I'd feel comfortable that it is current. Just seeing it on an undated web page does nothing for me.

Derived from the Sanskrit word meaning “grace” or “peace,” Prasada will break tradition with its innovative master-planned community that provides renewal for residents and stakeholders alike. Using water’s characteristics as a guide, Prasada’s community plan will encourage movement with its trails and open spaces, while various design elements, such as architecture and streetscapes, will create an atmosphere of serenity and refreshment.
Prasada will be a dynamic community designed to stimulate the senses with architecture, activities and lifestyle pursuits. Masterfully planned streetscapes, trail systems, family oriented communities and open spaces will provide residents and visitors with a sense of renewal, and the project’s unique architectural design will be carried throughout all aspects of the development, reflecting the fluid and refreshing nature of water. Reflecting the community-oriented nature of the development, Prasada’s streetscapes and pedestrian facilities will be designed to provide easy navigation and encourage interaction.
A unique collaboration between Suburban Land Reserve, Fulton Homes, Westcor, WDP Partners and RED Development, the 3,355-acre master-planned development will bring hospitality, entertainment, medical, employment, retail and residential to the rapidly growing community of Surprise. At the core of the community will be a regional shopping destination unlike any other – more than 1,200 acres of offices, hospitality uses, an autopark, a hospital and adjacent medical offices, shopping, dining and entertainment, including a uniquely designed regional shopping center.
Designed, built and maintained to complement the City of Surprise, Prasada’s architecture and amenities will preserve the city’s charm while simultaneously reflecting the regional hub that it is fast becoming. True to the city’s vision for the future, Prasada will meet and exceed residents and visitors expectations for the Northwest Valley. An unparalleled community where Arizona’s natural beauty, active lifestyles, the importance of family, and the excitement of an urban core intersect, Prasada will be a destination beyond expectation.

| Mamazoyd we don't agree often, but in this case I was looking forward to an upscale shopping mall. I've said it over and over again, we need some decent shopping in the area. But we continue to get more big box retailers, etc. The last time the Prasada folks were at a city council meeting, I had the feeling that the project was going to be scrapped - he kept saying "we have never gone this far without completing a project" - I guess I was half right - they scrapped the upscale portion and we are probably going to get a mall with all lower end stores....too bad, it could have brought a lot of $$$'s into the city.

Even better news:
Not only are we getting a Wal-Mart, but we are going to get a "Super" Target, too! From the sounds of things, the "upscale" Prasada deal has been put on the backburner. How the hell can you put any of this crap near the two-lane 303?? Totally ridiculous! What I really love is the apartment complex from hell at the 303 and Peoria Ave.
Maybe we'll see an "upscale" mall and "expanded" Route 303 in the next 10 years or so. Maybe? Maybe not??
The Sam's Club is going to be located at Bell Road and the 303.

Here's some food for thought. Where's the outrage over the next CVS or Walgreens going in??

You people crack me up. You can't stop another Wal Mart from coming in. It wouldn't matter if you lined up on both sides of Bell Rd with signs in 120 degree weather, if they own the land, they can build. It's as simple as that. You have absolutely nothing to say about it. Ask all of the surrounding communities if they had a say so. Relax, who cares? It's a Wal Mart. They are everywhere. We aren't so special that we are above having another one, you are just inventing an issue where there is none. Sorry.

Forget the cutsy shopping centers. All commerical bank loans are dead. We are in a Financial melt down. Gas is going over $5. We need Wallymarts close as possible. Most people will only be able to walk and bike to the store( those that have any money).. Wallymart will surivive and will be one of the few places left open to shop....
This Depression will make the '30s look like a cake walk. Hang on to hats kids your world is turning upside down..... Food shortages are predicted by summer.
Buy now and stock up while you have a chance... Use your worthless dollars to buy as much food as possible.... Figure on not having any electric power so buy non parishable foods...

So what's your point raz??? Yeah, I thought just like a lot of other people that a nice upscale mall area would be palateable, then they (Prasada) change things to throw in a Walmart? Don't think so! The fight is on...................................................................................................
And oh, raz? By the way, I became involved, I didn't start the group but when I inquired I was told it was underway. Just so you know...
And ONE more thing: it had not yet been posted on here and taking YOUR words of advice about how many people read this thing, I thought WHAT better way to get the word out .

Wow Mama, you are all over this. Whew. Thank God for people like you to tell our residents what they need to do because they wouldn't have a clue otherwise.
Uh, wasn't this the big time development that our past council wanted so badly that they agreed to a $240 million dollar tax break? Guess that is kind of an expensive Wal Mart wouldn't you say?

No mscarla, not at that location. It was in a story in the Republic a couple weeks ago. Okay everyone...here's the latest I received. The e-mail address is: residentsagainstwalmart@cox.net
We are growing fast everyone! There are over 35 members of RAW on our
email list. Please continue to spread this email address, the flyer and
cc the Mayor, our City Council Man and RAW on everything!
FYI, I know that the Mayor has received over 20 emails today alone. If
any of you have recieved a response from the Mayor, City Council
District 3 or the Planning and Zoning, please forward them to me, if you do I
will cut and paste and share with all of you!
RAW has recieved zero responses to date!
We are just beginning everyone and we wont stop until the City of
Surprise has acknowledged that Walmart is not coming to Surprise!
Keep it going!

| I was under the impression that store was going to be a Sam's club. I seem to recall they approved it at a former council meeting, but I could be wrong.

I'm not fussy, but no, I think Surprise has way too many pizza places just like Walmartels. There are other possibilities to take up that ground that would treat employees better and not become a blight to the surrounding area. Stand-alones like Sears, Penneys, Mervyns, AJ's Fine Foods, etc. Just let your imagination run wild...but another Walmart 3 miles up the road from the latest and greatest???? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Okay everyone...get ready. Our upscale Prasada project will soon be putting in one of its' first stores. Looks like they may be getting ready for the beginning soon. Are you ready 'cause here we go...(drumroll please!)... It is a
WALMART
Yes indeedy, from the looks of it, the premier store of Surprise, and only three short miles from the last new one which usually looks like an abandoned town. Aren't we excited??? With such great employment and benefits, how can we resist???
Located on the north side of Waddell Road between the 303 and Cotton Lane.
