Actually, he plans to reverse the Bush tax breaks as soon as he can.   So Bush and all his crownies will pay for WWIII.    :D

It's hilarious that RAZ is trying to convince Democrats that Obama is more of a war mongerer (he only thinks we need another 100 yrs in iraq) than Obama....save that for your golfing buddies, RAZ...they're more likely to believe it.

Sorry, I should have worded that better.  I didn't mean "all they do"--what I meant was that managing the books is about all they CAN do without an aide.  The librarians in the district are supposed to be teaching and giving grades.  Library is a special area class and highly qualified librarians should be given time to teach the children, bring in authors, read stories and implement vocabulary/lessons.  Most of the librarians are so stressed out and have SO much work to do it makes teaching and grading mission impossible.  BUT my biggest concern is the other cuts that are starting.  If parents don't realize what's happening it will be too late to stop the cuts.

clarz, from what I see, the librarians are trying to do three jobs at once.  They are expected to teach and grade 700-1,200 students a week.  They are in charge of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of books, checking in and out hundreds of books a day, repairing them, ordering replacements, and attempting to shelve them all without any aide help other than perhaps 3 hours a week.  Most are in charge of the technology at their school as far as storing, checking out, and keeping track of projectors, digital cameras, and more.

Based on my many years in the classroom, I see the librarians doing as much if not more than a 'regular' classroom teacher.  You say that 'all they do is check in and check out.'  Perhaps that's the case at one or two schools, but I'm always amazed when I talk to my friends who are librarians in the district by everything they do.

$104 thousand a second

I think the Illegals Aliens got war beat!
Except the flaw in your logic is that the Bush administration apparently can't do anything about illegals..or won't...but it sure could have not gone to war.  That was Bush's choice...and it's Bush's choice not to raise taxes to pay for it.

So far, Dysart elementary schools have kept the librarians and even upgraded to certified/highly qualified staff.  Unfortunately all the librarians do is books:  check in/check out.  Without an aide to do the books they have little time to "teach" anything but are expected to give a grade to students K-8.  For the time being the library positions are "saved".  However, there are other programs being cut.  Technology teachers have been given the axe in Dysart and one school has cut the music program to .5!

Watch very carefully---it could be just the beginning.

Yes, you bet!

Actually, the librarian at Barbara Bush Elementary in Mesa contacted LB and BB about the issue. And they actually called her back!

Barbara Bush comes to read to the kids at that school once per year.

Well -DUH how are we suppose to afford a librarian for our kids?   Do you have any idea how much this war is costing???

IRAQ
Per Month - $10.3 billion
Per Week - $2.4 billion
Per Day - $343 million
Per Hour - $14 million
Per Minute - $238,425
Per Second - $3,973

Our children/grandchildren can just do without.   I wish I could call in to all the tv promotions GWBush's librarian wife and daughter are doing for their new children's book and ask them what they think about this.   Maybe I'll write them a letter.  Do you have a source for this information that I can link to.

The Mesa Public School District unveiled a plan last Thursday to eliminate all school librarians over a three-year period as a cost-savings measure. That's 87 schools.

Other school districts have proposed or already made librarian cuts this spring.
  • Mesa Unified
  • Tempe Elementary
  • Fountain Hills Unified
  • Paradise Valley Unified
  • Tucson Unified
  • Tempe Union High School
  • Humboldt Unified
  • Creighton Elementary

Parents don't want their children riding an apple cart down the information superhighway. Today's teacher-librarians help students to develop information literacy skills, vital to succeeding in this 21st century world.

Teacher-librarians teach the love of reading and the value of literacy in children's lives.

Can a clerk with a high school education perform these same educational tasks?
