Fry's is a little further away than Safeway and Albertsons for me, but I always go there when I'm trying to find something that is hard to find. They have a super selection of everything, especially mexican food items.

My spouse was the same way about going out and accidently running into a student. So you couldn't go out in your kick around clothes. Now, it's just students from the past we run into.
I like Fry's because they seem to always have what we want or need, Basha's is to pricey and Safeway is always out of what we want or need. So I scratch them off the list, and stay with Fry's and Albertson's.

I agree that now's not a wonderful time to go crazy building stores. Albertson's hasn't built any in the last few years, though, even when the area was expanding rapidly. The valley certainly added enough people during the last three or four years to create demand for a number of grocery stores.
This made me think about stores that have opened in the last few years in our area. Basha's is almost always slow when I go there, and the Safeway at Litchfield and Waddell is a ghost town. The Fry's Marketplace at that same corner is the exception - it definitely does a good business. Every now and then I think I'll go to that Safeway to not deal with people at Fry's, but they are always either out of something I want or they don't carry it. I am much more likely to go to Safeway if I'm being lazy on the weekend and haven't made the effort to look completely professional in case I see any students or parents I know!

I have to ask a question.
Was the items you said had short sell dates, was that item on sale at the time you purchased it?
And also you were saying about Albertson's not building more stores. Well if you look at the economy, I think they are smart. And it is a good financial move on their part Last edited on Sun May 4th, 2008 01:42 am by GEM127

Mamazoyd is right that Basha's has nothing to do with Albertson's.
After checking dates where I used to shop, and finding some almost a year old, i contacted the corporte office...they replaced the manager...a decent mgr will go out on the floor him or herself and check dates and will hold his dept head responsible.

Dwig, I believe Food City is Bashas lowest grade store. To my knowledge, Bashas has 3 levels: Food City, then Bashas, then AJ's Fine Foods at the top.

I don't regularly shop at Albertsons, but it's on my walk route in the morning and sometimes I stop in for eggs or milk. Several employees have been telling me about the new remodeled store that will be unveiled on April 30th. I was told they were going to have huge sales starting that day.
So I went in today to check it out. It is so much worse than before, I'll never go back. The expiration date on all of the whole milk brands was 5/6. I needed two pounds of the butter they had on sale for cookies, but they only had one pound. I love the Lipton's Green Tea - but they were out of it. I needed a few things from the deli and the guy was so slow, I think I stood there for 1/2 an hour. I found a yogurt with an expiration date of 5/3. And the rest of my shopping went pretty much in the same way.
They had a lot of managers (the guys in the white shirts and ties) walking around like they were so proud of the store. I told them that it was worse than before and they just looked at me. I said "you don't care do you" and laughed. They pretty much laughed too.
Isn't "Albertsons" really Food City?
