The city council will vote thursday night on extorting cooperation from business. This is being done under the guise of the rental accountability ordinance. However, if they can jack up business license fees unless the landlords cooperate with rules that they can not mandate in accordance with state law, where will they draw the line with other types of business. I think this fails a equal protection test, if only one part of business in additionally penalized unless they cooperate with the desires of the city. Business owners take note. See you thursday night.

I emailed Mayor Lyn Truitt to-day asking about the Knights of Columbus issue that I addressed in the last council meeting, his answer after two weeks(
I will see where things are).

Will we receive the money we are owed or will council snow ball us.

After a month going through the normal process to get the documentation for an accounting of our $10,000 with the Knights of Columbus and being told by the City Attorneys office (by letter) that there was none.

I addressed the Council last night about this money, saying that Mayor Lyn Truitt said we had no signed agreement with the K of C, after the meeting, the City Attorney told me that there was an agreement.

This is the transparency we have from our city.

Excellent post Craig! Count me in!

The one thing that really counts is your vote.  If you don't like what someone is doing - when re-election time comes around, vote them out.  That is what happened to two council members this last election.

Bob, just enjoy halloween, thanksgiving and Christmas. You know nothing is going to be improved until after January 1. Why not submit a list of specific things you want changed, accompanied by rationale supporting your proposals. As an ex-councilman, you surely realize generalizations simply cannot be addressed.

You can talk until you are blue in the face, unless a group of citizens come together and apply pressure on the council, they the Council will continue to ignore us as if we didn’t exist.

There are a lot of young citizens living in Surprise, that will be effected by what the council and city manager is doing today.

If they pass Consent Item #12 Consideration and action on Resolution No. 09-160, a resolution accepting maintenance of the streets and public water and sewer utilities located in Shoppes at Surprise Pointe.

If this is in a shopping center, they should be taken to court, or explain why they shouldn't be.

I feel the same way about some of the other consent items, this Thursday.

This Council is like previous Councils and will do what ever they want.

It is my opinion that the City of Surprise has been a gravy train for sub-dividers and developers of shopping centers.

Citizens do not yet know if the council will approve the consent items. One council member can cause any particular item to be removed from the consent agenda. I am very hopeful the council will review items appropriate for placement on the consent agenda. The right time to do that review is in January, 2010, after Mike and Sharon assume council office. In my opinion, several other matters involving process and protocol  need to be revised to enhance the level of knowledge of council members and the public at large .

When are the citizens of the City of Surprise going to wake up, staff with the help of Mayor Lyn Truitt and Council are giving away our assets for pennies on the dollar (consent items this Thursday), and we will keep on paying through the nose.

A give away program as bad as the Federal Government

Due to circumstances outlined in the attached budget transfer memo, $46,500 will be required to be transferred from 21214-445-112-38999-29999. This amount anticipates that the city will operate the facility for a period of ten months.

Does anyone know what the City will use this building for to spend $46,500?

Because they won’t address or answer our issues about how our money is being spent, their transparency and openness only makes me cry more.

Surprise saw a 26.4 percent drop in the median price of homes sold in the first eight months of 2009, as foreclosures continued to make up the majority of sales, according to The Arizona Republic's analysis of Valley home value.
Data shows that 58 percent of the 2,757 homes sold in the Surprise area involved foreclosures.
Homebuyers paid a median price of $139,900, compared to a median price of $190,124 last year and $280,000 in 2006 at the height of the Valley's housing bubble.

If the Council and City Manager took the time to look at the accounting system and the books that the city keeps, they would know that a plain accounting audit would only find the minor problems.

Having studied these books for years and pointing out error’s to previous councils to no avail or concern, lots of luck.

I highly doubt this was your first visit.

But didn't you say you were leaving?  Remember all the begging ....puuulllleazzzeee don't go?? LOL:shock::D

Why is it the 'taj"?  It's our new City Hall and it's something we should and can all be proud of.  I think for all you sore loser Paula Forster's to tag it as something sinister or illicit is extremely disrespectful.  We have it, we own it, and it makes a statement about our City, we are no long podunk.  Get over it. We are moving forward. Embrace it and help or get out of the way.

As far as it being cold, you are probably one of those who takes a sweater wherever you go even when it's 125 degrees outside.  We see you all the time. Not everyone works on that thermostat.  When you are in front of hot lights and wearing suits with ties, it's hot.  Give it a break.  I have to say it's disappointing to see such pettiness about our City leaders being written on here.  Where were you guys when we had some serious issues, like voting excessive benefits for council members?  The corruption and deal making and outrageous charges against one another?  The headlines that were beyond embarassing, they were putrid.

You people are sounding very anal and churlish.  I'm all for going after corruption, you know that.  I'm not afraid to call it like it is, but I am also fair and want to make sure we are going after the right people before popping off with snide innuendo and snarky comments that really have no basis of fact.  Let's see some proof, let's seem evidence, let's see some facts.  Then we will listen.  The rest of this garbage is just sour grapes and our City doesn't need that right now. JMHO;)

I dont think that it was a CYA presentation. There are just people who refuse to go beyond the knee jerk and look at things objectively. "Fire the CM" they say, its all his fault. When this is all said and done i dont believe that will be the case. Excellent turn out and participation. One of the benefits of actually attending the meeting is being able to participate and listen to city officials engage the citizens. I really need to make it a point to every meeting...

While I frequently differ from good ole Raz - This time his comments about the Council are 100% correct.  He or she has identified the real issue at hand and the message is to chill out ,be concerned and alert but focus on the real issues of how to make Surprise the best of the best.

However, I am still not ready for Rush and Fox News.

I'm a little baffled at your glee here FWF.  What's up with that?  You sound like you are ready to march on City Hall as though there has been some intentional crime committed by the Council.  That isn't the case at all.  This is a staff issue that is being investigated and though it's disturbing which I admit is an understatement, it hasn't reached the level of criminal just yet but you sound like you are trying to rally a lynching mob.  Sorry, don't get that at all.  I will stay in the comfort of my living room and watch it.  If there is something I find objectionable, then I will let them hear from me but how about allowing some opportunity here to let the CM speak his piece without hanging him first??  Geez, get a grip.:cool:
