Whats the purpose of even having a town government then, No body wants to grow, live in a clean and neat community, and be left alone. Why wont Hartly community just dispand the town charter and unincorperate?

Naw, none of mine is for sale. I'm afeared I might end up with a neighbor like Kittybiddy.
I'm sure the developers would like to roll the town council into annexing property [they tried that a year ago] so they can get out from under County regulations and shove more boxes per acre . I think the people on the Council have looked at Smyrna-Clayton and seen the mess you made over there and the huge tax problems you are facing and hopefully realize the view ain't worth the climb.
YOU ARE RIGHT ON WITH THAT STATEMENT GEORGE, YOU AND I NEIGHBORS!! A RE RUN OF THE HATFIELDS & THE McCOYS, MAY THE BEST SHOT WIN!!!

We don't need more neighborhoods popping up to make new friends. I'm not against meeting new people, but I wouldn't go door to door, to meet new people if they built more developments in the Hartly area. Its a quiet and peaceful place to live (for now) and I'd like to see it stay that way. Nothing against you, but thats why most of us live in Hartly, to stay off the beaten path.

| In my opinion, you can never have TOO many friends. But, I understand where you are coming from. Last edited on Sun Jan 18th, 2009 12:38 am by SomeDoverGuy

| I live in Hartly and like it just as it is. I'd rather be "just a town you pass through on your way to Maryland". Leave Hartly alone!

| I'm for open space and all. I think it would be nice to see a FEW new neighborhoods out there. Last edited on Fri Jan 9th, 2009 12:32 am by SomeDoverGuy

Watch out! HARTLY could be the next Magnolia!
They certainly ruined that area by overdeveloping.
Not many farms left in Kent County.
Thank you Levy Court, for the traffic congestion, the long waits for a Dr's Appt,
the increasing crime rates, the roadside trash and the disappearance of the beautiful
countryside roads.
Great job!

| People need to realize that many others buy their properties to enjoy spaciousness. Of course they will object (as I would and do) to developments that don't flow with existing properties in the area. I don't care where you are located and it's especially true if you aren't in a city area.

Fred, he's putting in his apartments/stores on a site where there was once a combination garage, bar and general store there at the four corners. The old site was demolished by his crews and the lot stands empty right now, presumably waiting for the economy to improve. The old buildings were in poor repair and the last operator of the general store quit when the smoking laws said he couldn't have a smoke inside any more . The loss of the buildings wasn't that big a loss, but the store operator was a neat individualist I was sorry to see go.
I guess I can understand how someone coming in from the 'outside' could see the town as old and shopworn but I don't think most of us ever wanted it to be like Dover. What's the advantage to that? As you said, though, population pressures and the inevitable forces of change will make it over. Someday it will be back to where it once was, -a bank, three garages, a hardware store , two feed stores ,two bars and three grocery stores. Things have a way of ebbing and flowing out our way.

| Nothing but good can come from Mr. Zimmerman building a nice store/building on those four corners in Hartly. For so long Hartly has looked liked an old worn out town that nobody cared about.

| Can't fault how you look at things -just hope you'll keep looking at Hartly as you go on past. Frankly, we don't need the place to be a tourist attraction. We're already cursed with a Zimmerman project going in on the 4 corners that will add apartments and 'shops' on a couple of acres.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy the scenery out there when I'm driving. I was just suggesting a little economic growth idea.
When I think of Hartly, I think: "It's just a town I pass by when I go to Maryland."
I want to be able to think: "Wow, ____ is such a nice place to go."
Every town needs atleast one thing to look forward to. Maybe that's just how I look at things.

| No to more development , malls and such. We can get all that crap a few miles away in Dover . We have enough problems without inviting more.

| Do you guys enjoy the quiet country side or would you like to see more done to your town? Like more developments, stores, a mini-mall?
